Ok i recently downloaded the Special Extended Edition MOD, everything installed perfectly, followed the instructions letter by letter and then when i clicked the Special Extended Edition shortcut it loads then an error message comes up saying "game.dat has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

Now i have done the following:
1) Set your Windows Explorer to show hidden files by using:
“Tools/ Folder Options/ View/ Show hidden files and folders”.
2) Copy the mod folder “SEE” into folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Application Data\My Battle for Middle-earth™ II Files.
NOTE: “Chris” in this case will be named something different in your computer!
3) Copy the shortcut “BFME2 – Special Extended Edition” to your desktop.
4) The default path for installation is:
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II".
So you need to open properties (right click) of the shortcut, and change the “Start in” box
to where you installed the game. For example, if you used the default installation folder,
you just need to set it to the default path:
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II", like above!
Then also change the first part of the “Target” box (before “\lotrbfme2.exe”) in the same
way, but ad the –mod command at the end, like this:
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ II\lotrbfme2.exe" -mod SEE

PLEASE HELP

Use a legit code for the game.
Patch to 106
install per the pinned instructions at the head of this sub forum

Does (unmodded) BFMEII play with no problem?

Ok any issues are going to be hardware (like grahics card), or software (installation). The installation is covered fairly on this forum, well so lets look at it briefly. (If you can play BFMEII successfully, then its not likely hardware related)

And sorry, wasn't specific enough I guess. :D

Lets try this:

http://forums.revora...?showforum=1646 > look under "Important Topics" and you'll find

the "pinned threads"

Tell me what youve done so far... You have a clean, working, patched-to-1.06 playable installation of BFMEII, yes? And you installed that into its "default" location when installing, yes?

If that works, then you d/l'd and extracted SEE Mod v4.5 from this website and extracted that to a separate location (NOT into the BFMEII installation folders) per the instructions in the pinned threads I linked to above, yes?

If so, then what is in the Start In and Target windows on the desktop shortcut when you right-click it and select properties? Copy and paste those lines below.

Have you made any personal changes to the BFMEII or SEE installations?

We're here to help, we'll get you up and running, hang in there. :thumbsupdrool:

And while you are reading thru the Pinned threads, double check JonasKings thread on Installing

edit: p.s. thank you for registering :D

As suggested here in the guide, if I were you I would move (drag and drop etc, dont copy/paste) that SEE folder to the root of C:

do that and then look at the link above and check the Target and Start In properties of the dekstop shortcut.

your getting close hang in there.

did you make any changes to the bfme2 installation other than patching to 1.06 ?

Well then that means its not a clean, unaltered installation. :p

If you want the mod to run, either uninstall BFME2 automatically AND manually, then follow the installation instructions (which also said you cant use an altered BFMEII installation... ;) )

OR

reinstall BFMEII to a different, non default location, patch it and then you are going to have to make changes to the Start In paths of the shortcut to run the game.

You cannot use a ALTERED/MODDED version of BFMEII.

It hasd to be a LEGIT, CLEAN, UNTOUCHED, UPDATED installation.

here ya go

You're almost there...
