Barack Obama shrugs off charges of socialism, but noted in his own memoir that he carefully chose Marxist professors as friends in college.

Socialism is criticized in the U.S. from a more libertarian perspective as a big government is needed to regulate such things; any form of collective economic system needs a big government (Socialism and Fascist Corporatism). This is why the ideology of Marxism (Anarchy + Communism) is a pure fantasy.

Fascist criticism of socialism/communism comes from it's percieved destroying of cultural heritage. It's hated by Fascists for a different reason.

Yeah

@Kacen:Usually socialism is declared to be something bad mostly because of its influence to stalinism, maoism and Juche doctrine. But when we talk about Obama,we talk about an social democrat, rather than an socialist or marxist,as americans won't agree on an socialist guvernment, because they fought like 50 years against it,and now adopt it?This will give them the blame of the world,to show off that "stupid americans" ain't just an expression.

Kacen: Rubbish. Britain has a socialist government, at least as far as America need concern itself, and we have a great deal of cultural heritage. Much more than America, I might add, and the government is yet to make any moves to destroy that. Hard-line communism clashes with heritage because it is a revolutionary ideal, not because communists don't like the past. By the way, revolutionary simply means 'bringing about rapid change', and is not necessarily a bad thing. I think America could use a good revolution. It would be good to get you a bit of your own history.

The british government is destroying our bill of rights, flooding our country with immigrants whilst providing no evidence that it is in fact helping economically as they claim and also selling us out to the supranational authority that is the EU, undermining our constitutional monarchy. They are working very well at destroying our cultural heritage. Do not get me wrong. I am a republican through and through so I couldn't care less about the monarchy, however I do care about this nations soveignity and economy. Get labour and conservatives out of our government and lets reduce the size of government itself. Its perverting our ideals, destroying our liberty and invading our privacy all in the name of "security" and "anti terrorism." Fuck the "New World Order."

And after the 2008 election, I fear America will never be the same. Its already losing its empire and it is no longer the world superpower. I wonder how long it is before the average american starts standing up for the original american ideal of liberty against their corrupt government. Stating America needs a new revolution isn't far from what could happen. But it all depends on whether the minority of american's who have woken up can change the country before it is finally locked down into a police state.

yeah, Briton has a bad political grouping where the labour has gone right and the conservatives are the only real second option but also even more right. i dunno how far those liberals could get, but i personally never hear anything about them so they must be blessed with a bad marketing firm and sucky leaders.

It's mainly that the British electoral system is biased against a 3rd party, as constituencies run on a first-past-the-post system, which makes it very difficult of the Liberal Democrats to get in, and even harder for the Green Party or any of the other minor parties. And yes, New Labour is aligned further right than the traditionally right party, the Conservatives. It's a case of trading like for like at the moment, there really is very little difference between the two major parties.
