One thing I don't agree with is the lack of a cavalry unit. Rivendell was renown for its cavalry. They should be avaliable, but only a few. They should, however, be extremely elite.

And what happened to Elrond?

Elrond was the Lord of Imladris, not a warrior who did battle around Eriador in the late Third Age, or even wander around. His sons ran his errands, and Glorfindel. Also, I really don't remember reading about a cavalry force from Rivendell at all.

Then make a healing power named after him ;). Anyways, there is a quote involving Glorfindel that says they have powerful riders capable of riding out against the Nazgul, of which Glorfindel was the most powerful (Elrond was obviously, however, NOT a rider). Anyways, Elrond was still in the league of Galadriel and Glorfindel in power, so saying he's not a warrior is directly contradicts a quote I can easily pull up. The thing is that he prefered (and did) run things from the sidelines.

Give me that quote, because I believe it said Rivendell was the home of Elf-lords capable of riding out openly against the Nazgûl of which Glorfindel was the most powerful, not that they had a force of riders.

Rivendell is properly represented through Elladan and Elrohir and the Sentinels. ;)

Well Glorf did lead a force of riders against the witch-king during/after the fall of Arnor, but that was most likely not a standing force. So they wouldn't be randomly all over the place.

All Elves were trained to fight. Anyways, I'm still looking for the quote, but I do remember it from somewhere.

So? That doesn't mean they were under arms at all times, or were out there fighting all the time.

Yes, it doesn't. They'd only ever go near or around Rivendell or in a heated battle elsewhere. You could make them summoned with the lvl 10 Glorfindel, but only then. It'd be impossible to make up for a 100% lack of cavalry.

Anyways, maybe Halbarad could also be a hero.

We have them summoned with Glorfindel, yeah.

And I'm sure we can make it so Eriador is able to stand up to cavalry just fine. They are able to get spears before other factions can, and we're buffing their resistance to trample and crushing attacks.

Edit: Halbarad is planned, he's one of my favourite characters. ;) I'll add a list of heroes to the first post.

Okay, good. I wanted the Cavalry to be limited as they'd only enter a heated battle, and CP could represent that. But will there also be snowy maps?

Yargh. Not at a good snow effect in BFME1. I'll have to talk to Matt about it :shiftee: but assume not, because I've never done one before.

Don't see why we couldn't have cold, snowy maps. Really, the effect isn't hard to do, and if there is a lack of snow or ice textures I can easily come up with some.

Making it snow is just a simple map.ini. I can give that to Matias or Mike whenever.

The problem I find with the snow in RA maps is that it looks rubbish on the bases, so different floor textures would be needed for a start (it's on my list somewhere, had forgotten about it until now :shiftee:). Just a simple retexture for each faction and it can be activated with map.ini.

There are several snow textures for the floor. Cliffs and rocks less so. There's one cracked snow one which could be used as ice. Personally for BFME, I use that texture underneath a still, shallow, white, semi-transparent lake.

It'd just be more fitting to have a map or something like that with snow because this is the north... Maybe the remains of Fornost or Annuminas.

There will most likely be a map of Fornost, but I don't think I'd want it to be snowy. Maybe for a possible Forochel map.

Maybe there can be 2 versions of Fornost.

Matt, if you start replacing lots of textures in lots of objects, and do that in a lot of map.ini's, maybe it'd be better to use map.ini (or script) to give every player Upgrade_SnowyMap at the game start. Then you can use that to replace the textures.
Just guessing here, it's been a long time since I modded. :p

Ya know guys, this sounds eerily like how RA started all those years ago :thumbsupsmiley: With the exception that you don't intend to expand the other factions.
Good luck gentlemen, I can't wait to see how it works out. I really like the idea that the units are going to have permanent upgrades to compliment their versatility.
