Walls

also, i know you wanted to give goblins walls, but why not make real ones out of scrap metal instead of the wood fence? in the hobbit it said they loved to make all sorts of cruel things, and certainly had the capablity to build walls. i think the look should be based off the rusted scrap-metal look of the fortress and arrow towers. there should then be arrow towers and a seige unit on the wall (reskinned mordor catapult?)

For Moria, the walls are ok, but I agree, it would be cool with better ones. Scrap metal walls is a nice thought... I'll talk to my structure modeler Digi_byte and see if he's up for it, once Rhun's done

And for some reason I'm seeing a reskinned trebuchet working well for the goblins, or something similar, don't ask me why, but something like a trebuchet seems like it should work well for the gobbos as long as it has a rusty cruel look.

I personally would like to see the ability of placing units on top of the walls for all factions.
Not sure if that's something you've considered or not, but I would be thrilled if that was in the plans for the new version of the mod.

Unfortionately that requires very broad walls, in BFME1 fortress style. Those won't fit as free buildable camp walls.

There was another mod that may have walkable, BfME II style walls.

Did you happen to experience it in gameplay to see how it worked and if it's worth looking into for this mod?
Which mod was it?

No I have not played with it. There is this image posted by TPW, the walls are not in the newest version for the public.

SEE-DC will have more, larger and better fortress maps to play on than vanilla.

Ah yes, I have tried that mod a while back, but sadly it was very incomplete and not worth another try. To be honest, this SEE mod was the only one I consistently played.
It's sad that TRUE base building RTS' are no longer being made, and the ones that are, are terrible. In my opinion, BFME2 was the last good base building RTS made - but that was in 2006...8 years ago! I haven't played this game in a very long time because I'm itching for an RTS that meets my expectations for this day in age; which is realistic graphics (not cartoons), high speed animations, and intensity. Most are going mobile, so they're cartoon-y, extremely limited, and lame; the rest have little funding or quality - so they are not worth even trying.
Sorry for the rant, just had to get it out.
What I'm trying to say is, I am really looking forward to the new additions and tweaks you all are making to change this game into what it should have been and should be now-a-days. If you continue to do it right, you'll fill the void of MANY hungry base building RTS players. Keep it up, I'm a fan!

Elves will keep the walls they have, but we wil definitely add an Arrow Tower. This faction, if any, should have such a thing =) Goblins will most likely keep the simple fence they have now. We added animation for the buildup. Looks great =)

Nice. Ok. But I think elves should have at least towers because they are really unprotected.
