Nuclear General Question

First of all great mod! AI bit difficult but manageable.
I was wondering why the nuclear general doesn't have any base defences? It is a great disadvantage for people using him since they will most likely, as myself, relay on the nuclear storm or silo in their stratagems and in need to defend them until their ready.
If the nuclear general will remain without base defences, what is a good defence for him? since it like to see the nuclear storm in action but i cant find a way to defend my base while a wait for it to get ready.

I defend my nuke storm with nuke cannons. Deploy them behind some of your buildings like war factory, they will be good protected and able to fire. Some overlords too, and this is it.

"The best defense is offense." This is Contra Nuke General doctrine.

Keep on offensive and use Nuke Storm to supplement it. If you're fighting defensively, don't use it because it's a waste of money. Cripple your enemy and then use Nuke Storm to ensure his final destruction.

Well, maybe nuke storm could have Security System Upgrade, but it would be gaitling cannon with nuke bullets (from contra 005, cant remember name). Buying Nuke Storm you lose 12 000, and aditional money for nuke reactors, and more to build tanks to defend or attack...and, more you will lose one point for general powers.

Sure, i agree, but in online matches no one will use nuke storm because of that, long reload time and whole bunch of losing things while building nuke sotrm.

Proper units can defend Nuke storm without much problem. The key is to keep on offensive.

There is a replay about a game where someone fires nuke storm 2 times,its on contra website if i remember correctly.

thanks for the advise. I will try it out next time i play Contra. Still though you haven't answered my first question and i have thought two base defences for the nuke general:
1) A fixed nuclear cannon for an advanced long range defence
and
2) A rad turret which spews out radiation which kills infantry near instantly and damages vehicles over time

i agree with madin, the armageddon doesn't only totality obliterates a base, it also send shock waves that do damage to anything across the map.

It will turn Tao into turtle general like Alexander. I don't want it to happen. The point is to make mobile general who uses super weapons to support his ground forces.


And by the way, I have another idea for nuke general - Apocalypse Device. It is like super weapon, but not actually a super weapon. Its cost and build time is close to Nuke Storm - about 10000-15000 of money and 4-5 minutes build time. Reload time - about 5-6 minutes. Armor - 2 times higher than Nuke Storm has. And so, you've built it and loaded it. You can activate it, but you can not set a target. It does not destroy the area you want. It destroys the area around itself the following way: it launches 7 nuclear missiles into air. Each missile falls down and releases 7 warheads. So, you have 49 nuclear explosions which level everything in large area. Apocalypse Device is destroyed too. If you play on a small map you can destroy absolutely everything on it including your own base.

How to use it? You can build it near enemy base or between 2 enemy bases and defend it with all costs. Then activate it and win instantly. But enemy will notice it sooner or later and will try to destroy it. So, you will have interesting and stressful battle.

that sounds like fun. A nuclear suicide building. The only problem is that if you manage to build it in the enemy's base you likely would be able to just kill them with your units anyway. It would work really well in a team game with stealth or tank gen. Have them deploy building next to it (after you airlift a worker and some tanks to the location) and start building tanks & defenses. I want to see it destroy a 1v1 map though, that's be hilarious.

its a cool and original idea.

Apocalypse device....I think Nuke Storm is better and nuke gen does not need another that kind of weapon. And what for? To send whole army to defend it on some map area and leave your base alone? You can build Nuke Storm in your base at the same cost and reload time, defend it, and deceide which huge area will you destroy. I hope you would not remove nuke storm or replace it with apocalypse device.
