Currently, all the elven structures don't really look lorien-like (after all, lorien is the main focus of the elven faction). i suggest that we do something similar to rj (NOT in separating the factions, but i mean with the lorien structures). there, all the lorien structures are in trees, which is how they were (galadhrim means tree-people). their fortress also looks really cool, like caras galadhon, with the expansions being branches of the tree, but i'm not sure if they have the same fortress upgrades (seeing as the elven fortress is based more on rivendell in bfme2). what is your opinion on this?

if all the structures become lorien tree-buildings, then i propose that the current elven barracks be used as a new building called the "dormitory" for rivendell, mirkwood, and mithlond infantry. another lorien barracks would be used for lorien troop types. for more info, see the 4.8 suggestion thread on which units would be in the barracks or the dormitory. seeing as the green pasture is for rivendell lancers (and maybe lindon horse archers), it can stay in the rivendell theme without becoming a "tree building".

The main problem with making all the buildings up in trees is additional modeling. Now I saw in Four Ages mod some nice buildings in trees but any unit produced would have to walk out of the building then down some stairs. It would take a lot of modeling for each separate building and unit that comes out. Although I do admit it would look really cool.

in rj, they walk down the stairs...

some of the upgrades are good in rj, but upgrades such as crystal moat, floodgates, and eagles nest might not fit with it. i could do without crystal moat and floodgate expansion (replace with lights of lothlorien, which act like banners, and star of earendil expansions, which act like watcher statues), but eagle's nest would have to fit in somewhere on the fortress. also, it's not a four-tower fortress.

It's this (primarily)...

The main problem with making all the buildings up in trees is additional modeling.

yeah. it's definitely not a priority, especially as this faction represents all elves in middle-earth. i would say that if it is done, then it would only be for beta 5 or so.

i played as elves today, and i actually didn't mind the structures. some of them combine lorien and rivendell features quite well (like the fortress)

You know after watching FotR when they are in Lorien I don't think it would take as much modeling as before. The Lorien buldings were on top of trees and all have a canopied spiral staircase leading to the large flet at top. Now while in the movie you could see into the stair case since that is tough just make it a solid with windows or something so people can't see through. Then at the bottom where the staircase begins can be where the units come from that would make sense and will remove the requirement of having units spawn at top and have animation walking down the spiral staircase.
