The second unofficial Lord of the Rings prequel to hit the net this year, Born of Hope is an even more ambitious indie production than The Hunt For Gollum which was released in May to 4 million views. Released totally free to the net, it will delight fans of the trilogy by telling the history of Aragorn's parents and the Dúnadain people's struggles against Sauron's orcs, 75 years previously. The film is an epic feature length adaptation of the LOTR appendices featuring huge battles, a tragic love story, authentic props and costumes, and high production values to take you back to Middle-earth once again.

Born of Hope tells a new Tolkien story, boasting a host of characters, which have never been seen on screen before. Released exclusively on DailyMotion.com on the 1st of December, this UK based 70 minute prequel is the story of Aragorn’s parents, Arathorn and Gilraen, and the people who sacrificed everything to keep him safe.

Director and producer Kate Madison has put together a cast of professional actors, and a fantastic group of production talent, to capture the feel of the visual Tolkien universe Peter Jackson established in his trilogy. Made for a fraction of Jackson’s budget, probably about the same amount he spent on breakfast cereal, Born of Hope not only looks the part, but the original script genuinely brings a new dimension to The Lord of the Rings.

It was alright.
I wish they hadn't used stock sound FX though.
Something not right about those "orc" roars.

I saw it 2 days ago, it's pretty good. Two remarks:
- It suffers from the fanfic syndrom: lots of romance we hardly care about, room that could have been used for more epic stuff.
- It should be downloadable in a decent format. The DailyMotion player lags sometimes (not my internet's fault) and there's always a bar at the bottom. Some people might also want to make a DVD, or whatever.

It has high production values for an amateur/fan film. Like the first however it needs a tad sharper editing and has various other noticably amateur mistakes.

Yeah, like the lighting was off in some places. I was impressed by the acting quality though. It was far superior to the first movie.

By first movie you guys mean The Hunt for Gollum, right? Just so you know, that was not made by the same people.

This movie was great and in my opinion, even better than the Hunt for Gollum. I disagree with you 2play about too much romantic scenes. I thought it was very effective. I particularly like Elgarian. Reminds me a lot of Eowyn.

EDIT: Any movie that makes me shed some tears is always a good one. :p

Elgarin annoyed me,seemed like a cheap way to put herself into the movie.
Her whole part of the story was cliched.
I did enjoy most of the movie.
It's always good to have more visual references for modding.
Expect more Arnor stuff from people soon no doubt.

My bro ruined it for me by saying at the very end:"Doesnt Arathorn get dragged away by a troll and eaten alive or something?"

I practically went nuts!
Wait... what?

My teenage-daughter's remark after viewing the movie: "I don't understand how Arathorn can have such a fat belly, when he is running around in the Wilderness most of the time"! :thumbsupsmiley:

... well, I didn't really knew what to answer (she has read all the books except the History, so she doesn't just accept all my interpretations) ;)

Personally I have mixed feelings on this movie ... I think I'll have to see it a second time before passing any judgment. :D

;) That's very funny! I like that observation. :)

I haven't seen the movie. What were the things that you disliked about it?
