Basically, a moodboard is a mix and match of different pictures you think hits the feeling of what you are planning to make. By gathering different sorts of media here, we can quickly find a rough style direction we all can agree upon.

Here's my basic starting list:

I just have to add Italian spiderman to the moodboard. he is the personification of this viking in my opinion






Note, moodboards have very few rules. All it should do is set the mood you wish to go for, even if the sources of inspirations are way beyond the relevant topic, it might have a common element in it. In this case, i think that animal has a personality that would be a good inspiration for our drunken beserker viking, and the swedish chef has an interesting face that might work for some future concepts of the character(no eyes is always a fun way to make someone look a bit dim-witted )

anyway, some concepts:


First does of concepts, just did a bunch yesterday, doodling down some more on paper right now, might redo them tonight. I'm thinking the fox/wolf should be a sort of design inspiration in the facial looks of the character, hairy and sleek and dangerous and all that, but we'll see how that works out.

Yes, asterix is a big influence in the style here. This game will be a bit more mature in certain fields, but definately room for asterix in it

if you want inspiration for vikings go check "vinland saga" its a "realistic" manga set in the viking age.

That certainly is a mood I didn't expect

anyway, recalled a few classics.








Nice proper helmet with no horns, the average viking's helmet.



Here we have some in the right style imo




This is perhaps an example of what you can expect out of 3d hair if you're not careful, but still very stylised and proportionally fun.







Asterix certainly has some good examples of how to hook the mustache up to the lips.

That sentence is interpretable in two ways in my opinion:staring at some weird crap/starting some weird crap

For the first; I stare at many weird things, none of those viking pictures above are very embarrassing in my eyes

For the second; I sure hope we will make some hilarious weird crap that makes people laugh their asses off. It's a original project and there might be cash involved if it gets popular, so sure, weird=original in my book

Maybe the dog could be the actual smarter of the two. The philosophical dog that beserks when pushed too far. Then goes back to spitting out trivial but funny philosophical one liners.

Are you going for the Vikings Cartoonish style? Or "Real" looking vikings?

Nothing decided as of yet, but i think we're going to go for a south-park philosophy; stylish 3d, dark humor. We probably could go uber-realistic viking hellhole, but I think we will have alot more fun with parodies and over-the-top humor
