Ive been mulling over abilities in my head for gandalf these past few days.... Id like to get some brainstorming going on since Im stumped. Im trying to keep the abilities associated with what was seen on screen in the films. Any ways heres what I came up with

Grey:

Wizards blast - same as ingame
Mount - Brown horse seen in FOTR
Leadership - (Passive)
Shield (Glowing bubble) - Protects gandalf from melee damage for short time or say 1 mighty blow form the Balrog
Bar the way (YOU SHALL NOT PASS!) - Stunning ability (that should stun even the balrog)
Lightning Sword - same as ingame, maybe slightly better.

White:

Mount - Shadowfax
Istari light - same as ingame
Leadership - (passive)
Word of Power - same as ingame
Break Staff - Gandalf Breaks a targeted Istari's staff redering targeted istari unable to cast any abilities until death and respawn.

So thats what Ive come up with, Id love to see what you all come up with.

Some notes: The shield is an auto ability that Sul coded in, not sure I'd like to remove that... The mount is easy though to chenge brown/white horse =) Leadership will be passive for all heroes.

I was thinking....maybe when Gandalf ( both forms) dies, perhaps he should sort of "explode" and a shockwave of energy could follow it. Ex: Sauron explodes when he is slain and a shockwave follows. In the game, Galadriel dies but doesn't explode but a shockwave follows after, like Sauron.
Gandalf is a Maia Spirit and so was Sauron at one point. A spirit is basically full of energy and so, perhaps damage could be inflicted on ALL units around him? Any thoughts?
Thx :)

I don't think so. The balrog didn't explode when he died neither Saruman (in the movies).

Just an uber thought ^_^ Or how about when Gandalf(the white) is about to mount Shadowfax, perhaps Shadowfax(as a riderless white horse) comes out from offscreen and rallies to wherever Gandalf and also inflicts crush damage to every enemy it intercepts. Maybe, as this is happening Gandalf's audio clip from the TT could be implemented. Also, when Gandalf dies, Shadowfax will survive and roam (or become controllable by the player) until Gandalf is revived. EA originally planned for Shadowfax to go on until Gandalf came back in BFME but I don't think it happened.
Thx

Well it was just a thought since I personally would like to have more control on when its activated and see its recharge time. But its up to you, but as a last little thought there is always setting it to auto cast to keep it automated.

Yeah Im not sure Im with you on that. I see your point. But really sauron only did the explode thing onscreen when the ring was cut from him. He didnt die technically either. So I got to say "no".

Probably But I couldnt remember what or where it was. Since I had recently watched the trilogy it had started a bunch of ideas.

First post edited with new white ability.

I think Gandalf should be unique in the fact that, he can be more powerful when facing stronger enemies. Maybe put a scalar on the damage of stronger enemies to Gandalf? He would only reveal true power when facing stronger enemies.

It was very obvious Gandalf would use the extra power when necessary. He could take on orcs, trolls, camped and held his own against 5 Nazgul, a Balrog, and even the Mighty Witch King...

@njm: great 1st post and yeah, that explosion idea occurred to me after watching my brother play LOTR Conquest for two hours;)
Try this ability set:

Grey:
Wizard Blast
Mount: with the brown horse from FOTR
Glamdring Bolt: (lightning sword) especially powerful against Balrog
Light of Istari: Instead inflicting damage, it should clear away Darkness
Turn of the Tide: (YOU SHALL NOT PASS)

White
Shadowfax: Use idea from my 2nd post
Bolt of the Valar: Buffed version of Wizard Blast, Gandalf fires bolts of flame with the same meta impact.
Banishment of Shadow: Gandalf cures any coerced allies (like in TT where he exorcizes Theoden)
Ainur Light: Buffed Light of Istari with same effect but add the Elves' Sunflare spellbook power's effect to it.
Final Embrace: Word of Power

It is possible to put this power in Gandalf

"

  • Fireworks: Gandalf creates a massive fiery beast in the shape of a dragon which flies towards his enemies and explodes. This is the only ability which is not based on The Hobbit, but instead on the gigantic dragon rocket accidentally fired by Merry and Pippin during the opening of The Fellowship Ring." Edain Mod

Or any of this:

  • Burst of Sparks: Gandalf sends forth a burst of sparks and magic from his staff, blasting nearby enemies.
  • Burning Pine Cones: Gandalf lights pine cones on fire and throws them at his foes, each causing explosive damage upon impact.
  • Blinding Light: Gandalf emits bright rays of light, stunning nearby enemies and turning trolls to stone.
  • Word of Fire: Enemies around Gandalf are incinerated in a ring of fire.

?

I would love to see that

The only one I think makes sense is the pine cone spell.

Yeah. I understand that fireworks seems like it should be a power. However there really isn't an example of gandalf using them as a weapon.

Dunno, the scene in The Hobbit (book) where he sprays fire on the goblins sounds a lot like fireworks to me.
