My new laptop (HP Pavilion dv6) with Windows 7, 64 bit, won't run any of the BFME games. Anyone know a verified fix?

- try compatibility modes
My BFME 1 is running fine on Win 7 x64, apart from the fact that I had to force the display resolution in Options.ini.

1) Create a new folder in the following location:
C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth 2 Files\Maps
2) Create the following file:
C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth 2 Files\Options.ini
3) Paste the following into the Options.ini file you just created:
AudioLOD = Low
HasSeenLogoMovies = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = VeryLow
Resolution = 800 600
StaticGameLOD = VeryLow
TimesInGame = 1
If this fails, delete it and replace it by this:
AllHealthBars = no
AmbientVolume = 81.000000
AnimationLOD = UltraHigh
AudioLOD = Low
Brightness = 50
DecalLOD = Off
EffectsLOD = UltraHigh
FlashTutorial = 0
GameSpyIPAddress = 192.168.0.2
HasSeenLogoMovies = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = Low
ModelLOD = UltraHigh
MovieVolume = 70.000000
MusicVolume = 78.000000
Resolution = 1440 900
SFXVolume = 80.000000
ScrollFactor = 30
SendDelay = no
ShaderLOD = UltraHigh
ShadowLOD = UltraHigh
StaticGameLOD = Custom
TerrainLOD = High
TextureQualityLOD = High
TimesInGame = 61
UseEAX3 = no
VoiceVolume = 69.000000
WaterLOD = UltraHigh
I never had to do this myself, since I use XP, so it's just a way I've heard of from other people using Vista/7.

I don't know why, but adding the options.ini manually fixes the issue.

Yes, as Win XP sp3 - that removes the crash, but it says "please insert the correct CD" or soemthing like that (They're all originals)...Have you tried running in compatibility mode?
It's a 1 day old brand new laptop with genuine Win 7 64b, and the games are freshly installed and patched...Did you try simply re-installing? I got bfme1 to work without trying anything on my system.
That fix seems rather hefty... Oh well, I guess I have to fiddle with that. Thanks for posting guys. I wonder why only some ppl have this problem though =/
