Seems to work for me. AI still isn't as hard as in contra 007, but atleast they put up a challenge now. Now I don't have to spend one hour getting to rank 5.

Judging from the beta, Contra 008 is definately as hard as anything the 007 version could throw at me. I used to be a bad ass with the China Tank army in 007, but since the 008 beta is here, I'm getting my ass whipped half of the time. Interesting. Very sad though that it is so prone to "serious error" drop outs and "time outs" in multiplayer against AI. But then again, this game's AI is called "Skynet" among me and my friends, and has unfortunately always been unstable in multiplayer mode (even tested the Netfix on 007, without better results).

Very, very glad to hear that you are considering moving on to newer and more reliable engine! If it's possible I for one would gladly PAY for a new complete game including this mod and the base game. I'd pay as much as $50 for the complete game, rehashed and remade into something more reliable and fresh! Contra RULES! Regards from Sweden.

Ok, since the big man himself, Pestryakov, has left the team, I imagine there'll be no more Contra for atleast a long while, maybe forever.

I have good news. Even though Creator is away, Dcesarec and I have taken Contra's future in our hands. We have made some progress alone and we have found two coders that can help us with coding soon. We are motivated to release a full version. Progress looks faster from my perspective, except for coding which we haven't started. We have a list of bugs and changes which need to be worked on.

Ok, since the big man himself, Pestryakov, has left the team, I imagine there'll be no more Contra for atleast a long while, maybe forever.

 

Pestryakov didnt left the team, we are still in contact with him via skype, although last 2 weeks he is offline ( i guess some personal problems). We made some good progress this weekend and we continue to work. Not all ideas will be implemented, but full release will be done. My wish is to release it on Christmas or New Year. Andrey switched on NeoAxis engine as we speak, but he still helps us sometimes on sage.

 

And 3 coders joined us to help us, its Zeke, Anubis and Antonika from redsys. They will get their tasks soon. It will be implementing some remaining models, and removing some obvious bugs such as missing china bunker cameo etc. Full release will also be cosmetically better than 007, but with gameplay more similar to 007. We will do as much as we can, but keep in mind that we have a very hard time. I dont remember we had such problems anytime in past. Basically only PredatorBG and i left here, have some understanding.

 

Dont worry, i wont disappear without telling people that mod progress is dead, and that will happen only if i get physically blocked from working on this.

 

I also want to join Andrey with neoaxis, but i am sad of not giving 008 to crowd.

just saw the update on moddb, have to say, the game looks really really good!

espicially those new laser turrets, they are awesome!

You guys are planning to move to NeoaAxis after 008?

We don't have plans about new stuff at this time (except that some stuff from 007 may return). As you assumed, yes, we will mainly work on balance and bug fixing. Challenge is being worked on. Some bugs are already fixed, including the Laser Challenge victory conditions. There are plans to create challenges for all generals, including USA, China and GLA Boss generals (some of which are already in the making). Campaign has the least priority.

Have now played Contra008FINAL extensively. What an awesome mod! Absolutely fantastic. You should be immensely proud of yourselves. 

One question though: is there a possibility to get a translation of what the various chinese troop types are saying when talking? I'm really interested in getting to know the meaning of the sentences and words. Thanks. 

Is there a possible future version of Contra where the Russian army will be included? That would be awesome! Regards, Erik.
