Does anyone know if there's a way to browse, check and display animated FX outside the game, just like you view a model in W3D Viewer?

There's the FX Particle System Editor that Gil-Galad made quite some time ago.. I never got it to work, but perhaps you will ;)

Interesting... so what happened? It didn't run, it crashed, or it simply couldn't display the fx? Anyone else tried this?

EDIT: For me, it crashes on boot. I tried all compatibility modes from Win95 to WinXPsp3

There is no source code for the program is there?
Otherwise i might be able to recompile and possibly debug the file...

I remember Gil posting the source codes in a thread he made for anyone to finish the programs ;) I even clicked on it and it took me to a google folder or something. I'll try to find it again.

Well, I for one would really appreciate it if you get the FX Particle System Editor working.
I've never been able to use it. (Windows 7)

Creating great FX would be so much easier! :shiftee2:

I will do all I can to make it work :p

-------------------After an hour or two of exploration-----------------
(and after fixing minor stupid bugs due to Direct X update)
Ok... It wont compile simply because its too old and somewhere in the VB code it crashes, the run-time debugger shows me a single line which is where-about the error occurs, which does not give me any information about what is wrong whatsoever...
Its written in Visual Basic, which is not really my "language", I write stuff in C++, I can make sense of the code...

The option I see most successful is extracting the formula's from the Particle viewer Gil-Galad made and then using those to construct a new particle editor...
Though I am not sure how long this would take to do, seeing the fact that I'm only at my second year at the NHTV Breda - Programming studies, meaning that I have not worked that much with Direct X yet.

Before I even consider doing this I would like to know how many people would like to see this FX Particle Viewer being remade...
So let me know if you would really like it if i were to recreate this particle viewer.

Well, I say do what you want. If you really want to remake it, I'm sure people would appreciate it.

Trying to hold on...

I for one, would use it every day for... I dunno - a few weeks or more, since I'd like to go through and customize all FX in game. So I place 1 wote (well actully 100, but I guess that doesn't count)
