Get out and enjoy spring today, those in the northern hemisphere - we're on track for midnight. That's the only unfortunate part of a non-winter release, although we might've hit some spring breaks at least.

Ugh, sun shining in the eyes and bugs buzzing in your ear... what's to enjoy about Spring? :crazed:

At least I can still read the manual.

I was thinking German.

Regardless, I'm down in Georgia at the moment, so the weather is great.

2.2 GHz dual-core laptop with 2 GB RAM running Windows 7

3.0 GHz dual-core desktop with 2 GB RAM and a GeForce 7200 running Windows XP

Those are the mod development computers? :omg:

Hahahahaaa no, well, not for me anyway. I've got my 3.4GHz quad core desktop with 8GB of RAM and a HD5870. With those specs I can play even Operation Shadow Hand, just about. If you do play that campaign, go "spring cleaning" with the Sovereign to improve your framerate a bit ;)

Thats a good point evilbob, any other hints and tips you can give us to improve the performance of say core worlds or other campaigns when 1.2 comes out in a couple hours.

So does CPU clock scale with performance? Im already at 4.0 Ghz on my i5 but i could push ~700Mhz farther if it will give a noticeable improvement.

Yes, as far as I can tell performance scales with clock speed, but there is likely to be diminishing returns because the game engine (not the CPU) is the thing bottlenecking performance. Also of note is that FoC only runs on one core so you can underclock the others if you want to reduce the risk of overheating.

Otherwise there's not much you can do about performance. You can quite easily force AA/AF if you have a decent graphics card, though the AA may cause some framerate decreases on land (lots of trees) or when the enemy has a lot of starfighter squadrons. That's all dependent on your graphics card, though.

I'd suggest turning off shadows. They do little in space, yet take up the majority of a model's file in most cases.

Is that a recommendation regardless of performance issues...?

If it's hard then it's worth doing.

No, only if your GPU is having trouble with the frame rate.

What exactly is there we can do to improve famerate on the campaign map? In battles, I've always been quite alright, but the campaign map just brings my computer to its knees.

Probably not a whole lot... it's an inefficient implementation that's causing the lag. We did what we could here, but it's mostly a problem with the engine source code.
