Hi there!

I cant help to notice that infantry is next to useless - well, maybe apart of shock troopers/rebel vanguard. They get hit/killed/run over by everything on the battlefield. The only use they have got is to control buildings/drop zones. I dont think they should really get more HP, but I think that all the army (not civilian) infantry should have a secondary weapon like idk Panzerfaust type thingy or ion grenades to counter the vehicles or sth. In my recent campaign I upgraded all my infantry(rebels) and tested them on the battlefield and I am quite certain I will never invest in them again.Heroes/bikes can control the groud and they are much better at it + more HP and faster.

They are very easy to kill, but it would be ridiculous to have infantry tanking vehicular weaponry and surviving. I deal with their frailty by packing them into AT-AT's and Juggernauts. However, it does seem vehicles are remarkably accurate against infantry, even at long range. Perhaps infantry can be given some evasion bonus? They can duck to take cover while a vehicle cannot. Also, perhaps grenade range could be increased. Either would make their usage more viable.

As a mapper, I have been trying to add more options for infantry to my maps with infantry-only areas to prevent them being run over. As Stormhawk says, garrison units and structures are the best place to keep infantry until they are needed.

Fighters manage to survive in space battles simply because the to-hit chances favor them more than their fragility would suggest (at least until missiles come through and ruin everything). Is that not a possible adjustment that could be made for infantry?

As speeder/swoop bikes can capture things as well, I've yet to find a reason to use any infantry besides Vanguards/Shock Troopers. The main problem is that EaW just doesn't do urban/forest/etc. environments well where vehicles would be much more restricted. It's well suited for the big set-piece battles of space and large vehicles, but these little guys fall by the wayside.

Aside from the mentioned accuracy, the only way I can see making them useful without messing up ground is to revamp population caps/costs into a major balancing mechanic for ground and galactic, too.

And yeah, the infantry only areas are quite nice to see more often.

Expect to see some improvements to urban environments after I do another few map passes. Since infantry squads in PR are much smaller than in vanilla, I can work in some more intricate areas with structures etc in the way of heavy fire. Unfortunately that requires something of a revamp of most urban props since they rarely have collision set up correctly.

There's also the problem where units don't check to see if there's an obstacle in their line of fire and so sit there shooting the ground forever.

PG made infantry collision boxes too big - they all need to be redone. If these were used in the films, the Stormtroopers would never "miss" and the heroes would've died several times over.

This will sound crazy, but could it be possible to make a world "infantry only"? Perhaps a line of code telling the game that no vehicles can be deployed on the planet? Except maybe aircraft?

Kamino already has that status, I believe.

That sounds promising, then.

No ground vehicles, so airspeeders rule Kamino.

True. Though upgraded speeders generally RULE :thumbsuphappy:
Although I would really like to see some sort of a TIE unit instead of Talons which are just...ugly.

Be careful what you ask for, or you might end up with Lancets :p.

Nooooooo....Hang on - actually they look slightly better(with all due respect to the modder who mapped them - they are just an ugly imperial design - drednaught is a pretty next to them!

While an individual infantryman may be susceptible to every weapon, an infantry unit should be terribly resilient--after taking into account that it consists mostly of empty space and can hide in almost any terrain. The "take cover" ability should be common to every infantry type and be on auto-use. This would have the happy dual benefit of prolonging their survival and providing a mechanic to simulate suppression fire and pinning.

Have you tried assaulting Nar Shaddaa recently. It's interesting.....

While I admit that the early troopers are cannon fodder, have you tried Ranger III's - their rifles bust chunks out of small vehicles.
In fact, the III upgrade on most troopers is pretty good.

You know, I've never been to the Hutt Moons...

I still think we should take some ideas from Rogue Squadron *coughmorefightersingroundcombatcough*

Also, do we have any (I've been playing Sins of a Galactic Empire a lot lately) airborne transports for infantry?

The game-start LAAT/i groups are air transports--and better in combat than any airspeeders you can build, really. Hoard them!

So we only have the ones we start with? Schade.
