Vote on this FX like now Fellas ! Just like the battle dust feature before it will be altered to match its surrounding environment. For instance in Fangorn you'll get Leaves & dust instead of just dust, works the same for snow ! ( Uploaded in HD for your viewing pleasure feel free to abuse it )  :

I would say maybe, because I'd like to see some dust that stays around for a couple of more seconds. As it is now, I don't think it gives enough depth for it to stay.

doesn't last long enough to be noticable, but then again, is it worth having all the time?
its not like every battlefield is a dust bowl
Personally, if you could, it should be for snow only and it should linger for 2-3 seconds

And forgot: Snow would be weird. You compress the snow after all. Same goes for leaves and what-not.. Dust on desert\dirt\Pelennor-ish maps would be the only cool one when I think about it..

Well, when double-thinking about it, you kinda compress the dirt too. Or maybe I'm just mixing up how it all acts when you're walking or running. I'm mostly doing my running on the pitch anyways.

compressing snow is one thing, but they would be marching and running through snow, and I'm talking snow so deep your kick your feet through it

But would that not appear odd, considering the snow cannot be that deep unless you model it onto the map?

No matter what the surface is (except stone, pavement and such rock solid things) you WILL get some level of debris when running. Trust me, I have a dog... I think the dust looks good, but like Lauri said, it could use loger "life span" before it settles. How did you code it to switch caracter depending on map btw?

Since snow is much more thicker than dust so it doesn't last as long. So the snow will be a bit longer than what was shown in the video, and the dust will hover a bit and then settle if i can get it to. And Naz i don't quite get what you mean, I use the map.ini to change the texture, opacity, and/or color or if needed the whole fx.

the key point here to any contradictory point is that we're not aiming for realism here. not to this extent to argue about compressed snow and how much mess an army leaves behind
the main thing is to create art in a visually appeasing way

Dirt, long/slow trails that fall slowly
snow, quick poof at feet that dissipates quickly
grass, same as snow but not a big poof

I don't think this has to be made into a vote. If you like it, you add it.

An option is adding in the code for the FX (the second draw) but not add the actual dust then edit said dust trail on a map by map basis through map.ini

That way you could have sand, snow, dust or leaves or whatever you want.
