I had a friend working on this model in ZBrush, but as he went away for a while and also reported not feeling too good atm, I didn't want to nag him about progress and details of this highly anticipated model for Moria (goblin) faction. This combined with my desire to learn modeling via ZBrush I finally got the hang of things to a doable extent. I can't say I master the program in any way as it's quite complex for a modeling newbie like me, but I've learned enough to sculpt what I want in the same manner I sculpt in clay IRL. Here's my first ever model (except a practice round altering a male human into Azog look) - the Weta style Great Goblin from The Hobbit movie. Model is not yet complete with crown, staff and the piece of leather around his waist. But the body is finished =) Poly count is staggering 1,4 million, but I tried a reduction to 12k which still looked very good. I am aiming for 4-8k in game and it should be ok-ish as it's still just one model and not meant for a horde.

Crown and staff will hopefully be completed this weekend, and then I will skin it somehow...  :thumbsupcool:

When this model is ready to go in game, I will complete it with 1-3 new goblins with Goblin Town look, and then code them to escort GG on the battlefield as a slaved horde of about 10 units circeling him. That should look and play pretty cool and unique.

The Power of Eating Pizza !

Men will cower at the sight of him eating pizza!

Also, he'll have a power called body slam for lots of damage on a single unit, very effective against dwarves.

Body Slam? Lol... yeah why not?  :smile2ap: Atm he's got Leadership and Poison Area (a green mist that covers a large area for a while). I will also give him a summon power where several hordes of goblins from Goblin Town crawl out of the ground. That should be pretty cool  :themenace:

Will work on the staff today...

I won't... as I can't rig, but I will ask you or RG to rig it to two SKL, to decide what looks best. The fat orc from RotWK and if that doesn't work, then the Cave Troll SKL...  :themenace:

RG will be a bit bored of the Great Goblin, as I asked him to bind Irenë's version of it :p

Nah... I think RGs fine. He's used to rigging and usually he rigs a model in 10 mins or so  :thumbsuphappy:

What mod will Irene's version be in?

Final object done... The Royal Skull Septor!  :thumbsupxd:

Tomorrow I'll assemble it all (though saving copies of separate meshes), and start figuring out how to skin the works...

This is the concept I followed for the septor...

Mesh assembly (body+crown +septor) done... Now for the really hard part (I assume), as I have no idea how to texture map the model for skinning...

I think you should worry about getting it to low poly without losing the general feel of the mesh first, otherwise you'll be texturing and unwrapping it twice. I'd suggest using renders of the high poly model to texture the low poly.

Thanks for the tip, I'll see how far I can get via tutorials and vids on this....

BTW, could someone tell me the poly count of the following models in BFME? Just for comparison...

- Mumak?

- Balrog?

- Giant?

- Troll?
