As you know I get bored, then I start new projects. So here is WIP Ost-in-Edhil from the brief clip in FOTR. If you have suggestions or more reference material let me know.

Spot on! However the movie design is too small for the most important dwelling of the Noldor in the Second Age. I have somewhere an alternative map of the city. It's bigger than that and flower-shaped. If you want to take a look, let me know and I'll upload to Image Shack to show and share.

I wouldnt mind a peak at it, though Im not gonna deviate too much from what is shown in the films. Besides that ost in edhil was completely abandoned and destroyed, I doubt there would be much left anyway.

Omfg!!! You are sooo good at capuring the ambience of the movies by paying attention to details - EXACTLY want I want for SEE. I'm so glad you are part of this and sharing my vision for this mod :thumbsuphappy: Question, how did you find such matching models/parts for this map? Did someone model them or did you find them in the game assets?? They look almost identical :smilehuh:

In this case the makers of the original bfme get some credit. I suspect many of the ruins were designed after ones seen in the films. It wasnt until recently (working on osgiliath) that I noticed how similar they were to the ruins seen in fotr.

Nice work. For additional inspiration, don't forget that there was a second representation of Ost-in-Edhil in the films:

Is that from the EE extras?

I'd guess so, but haven't seen them in ages. Was it on the wall at Rivendell?

OOH, the art from rivendell is good. gives me some ideas to place and create things unseen in the film.

@Arthadan - Ive seen that map. its a lovely piece. Though its a bit far off from what the film ruins look like, I do like how its situated overlooking the merging of the 2 rivers.

Im hoping I can bring the 2 rivers into the map as well as the bridges seen in the art from rivendell. This map could get a whole lot more interesting if I can pull it off

Oh yes, I suggest keeping the recognisable scene, but expanding what we don't see.

Are you sure that ruin from the film is Ost-In-Edhil? When I watched the commentary of the movies they just said they wanted to plant a ruin there just to be there ...

Nothing is certain. It just has a bit of logic behind it. I could rename the map, it wouldnt be a big deal. Though most sites use the image from the film as ost in edhil.

It could be a suburb of Ost-in-Edhil.

You could make a larger ruins - more like the Rivendell painting - somewhere else on the map and still call it Ost-in-Edhil. ;D

Other than that, I think the Fellowship was travelling through Hollin at that time. Ost-in-Edhil could be another mini-fortress map.

Yes I agree with much of everyones thoughts here. Rather than force this into ost in edhil, I will just rename the map Hollin or Eregion. The image of ost in edhil from rivendell has issues - especially the river and road. So neither really works like it should with what we know of the elven fortress.

Ost-In-Edhil was the capital of Eregion . That hardly resemles a capital for an elven kingdom .As other people said , you can say it's a part of it , or simply a ruin around it .The real capital should look like The Big Apple .
