Most of us here are hard working folk now.  We get up.  Wake up.  Go to work.  Pretend to do some work.  Go home.  Get something to eat.  Go to bed.  Rinse.  Repeat.

We spend 8 hours sleeping (if we're lucky), 8 hours working and on average an hour and a half in transit to and from.  Life is fucking boring most day.  Without any effort, we've already whittled down over 17 hours of a 24 hour limit on each day and that's without adding on time to wake up, get ready for work and eating.  If we're very lucky, we might get a full 4 hours in each day to do our own thing if family and other halves haven't done their utmost to claw away those hours.  A little something to help us numb the pain of the tedium of day to day life.  So apart from gaming, what is it that you do to fill your time and keep yourself sane?  Does it do anything for you or is it something to simply fill in the gaps between getting home and going to bed?

Personally, I draw a fair bit these days.  It's something that gives me a little peace of mind as I empty its contents.  Something that gives me a slight illusion of control over something in my life and whenever I look back, I can see a definitive state of progression.  I do occasionally waste away hours with music and movies, but they feel like little more than space filling void of background noise to drown out into.  No matter the quality of the medium, by the end it always feels like a depreciation of my time leaving nothing of the completionism that drawing provides.

So, what about you lot?

Thought I'd have that here to save time.

Poems. Or books. Either I try to find a book with a character facing a similar issue and motivate myself via said character's steps and where those lead either I just take my favourite mechanical pencil, some 2B leads, a notebook and wrote something down, hoping that ultimately I can make it sounding as a poem, and in the same time, writing out what bothers me.

Get a job that is rewarding and entertaining - like teaching. But that is when your job becomes your life.

Yeah, that sounds as rewarding and entertaining as boiling my bollocks in emulsified chip fat.  Save the old adages for peopole who are gullable enough to fall for them.  At the end of the day, work is still work and this isn't the thread to be talking about work.  This is the thread to talk about those little things that keep us happy when we're away from work.

You guys should try the newest release of this thing called 'nature' from time to time. It has top-notch photorealistic graphics and a really good physiscs engine to play around with. It is more the adventure type of game, and it doesn't allow savegames. Sound pretty hard doesn't it? But it has the ultimate challenges and trust me, you will forget your everyday reality quickly. Try the expansion packs 'running', 'climbing', they add more in-game depth to it. Good luck.

Definitely, that's for advanced difficulty.

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid the topic of gaming in this thread too.  No gaming and no work.

Filmmaking and writing screenplays. Mostly writing something big this last year but time to move on if it doesn't prove fruitful.

The message was: Dont take life too seriously in your "down time" ;).

Sometimes I just go driving around the countryside to be away from civilization for a while, or I'll read a book... or participate in a yiffpile. y'know, whatever's floatin' my boat that day.
