Yeah I know the Alliance/NR lacks anything  to balance against it (still want it though :p). As to finding a suitable ship... if one comes to mind I'll let you know, right now I'm more focused on how those already in the game work out throughout every CG.

i think i might have found a potential candidate. disclaimer. it is an Imperial Craft. I mention it because it is stated to carry a large amount of cargo, and the design on which the ship is based is 1, quite common, and 2, already in game

http://starwars.wiki...rial_cargo_ship

its stated to be a converted Acclamator, carrying just over a half-million metric tons of cargo.

here's what I'm thinking.

you have converted CR90's, EF76's, Dreadnaught Heavy Cruisers, and MC80's in the Thrawn Campaign which are unarmed, yet carry cargo. perhaps we should try something similar with the Acclamator.

take an Acclamator-1 hull, downgrade the hyperdrive to a class 2. leave 2 Quad Turbolasers, 12 of the lighter guns, and 4 Medium Turbolasers, scrap the rest. downgrade the engines to 2/3-3/4 the speed of the Acclamator-1, same for shields. remove most of the troop quarters (keep enough room for about 500-2000, so the ship is still pretty versatile)  and most if not all the provisions to launch the assault forces, and maybe leave room for a squadron of fighters.

So i'm thinking that it could be built from a level 4 yard (using the standard shipyard system), on account of it being such a large cargo ship.

oh and these will be Rebel craft

Ok so here's a few ideas I had in regards to this. They are all pushing canon a bit though, but I thought I'd throw them outfit discussion.

1) Similar to how johnchm said above us repurposed Clone Wars era ships like those above, or Hardcell or Core Ships ect.... These should probably be limited in number or starting only though.

2) A variant of a Mon-Cal design. Likely The MC30, it already has a bit of the shape of a transport, and could be the base for "Mon Cal tanker" I've seen mentioned.

3) A variant of the Hajen/Sacheen classes. The Hajen has a large cargo capacity and it makes sense that if they are not currently being used to support a fleet, then they would be assigned to logistic duties and transport. It isn't too unreasonable to assume that there would be a I between model of the two classes that could serve a it's own escort, actually it makes a lot of sense for such a thing.

4) Finally my wildest and most unsupported idea....Surosuub's Liberator cruiser. So Surosuub makes a number of transports and freighters, but only a handful of dedicated warships. In fact their largest, arguably, most effective warship the Dauntless-class is described as a converted luxury liner like Mon-Cal ships. I propose the idea that the Liberator wasn't intended as a warship either but as a high end bulk transport. It's stock pre-Rebel/NR days saw it as a well shielded, decently armed transport, and that upon falling in to Alliance hands through sympathizers it was upgraded and reconfigured similar to Quasar-Fire class.

Or I just have too much time and imagination.

i wouldn't want the first option unless as a last resort. the only reason i added that craft is because the basic hull is already in the mod.

I hadn't thought of option two. makes sense though.

option 3 i kinda like. once you scrap most of the armaments and the hanger, as well as the respective crews, you can probably get a good 100 thousand or so tons of space. more if you automate the ships more and remove even more of the crew and consumables needed. my only concern is that In-Universe, the ship would be one giant Short-Haul Freighter, since it can't go without a stopover for more than 5 months.

option 4 actually makes sense, though I would use as big of a ship as possible

Here's an alternative for a large freighter, although there's no model made yet.

Mega, the sulon star would be an awesome high end bulk freighter.

Ok just some thoughts I had about the Sulon Star.

There isn't much detail about the ship, so I decided to compare it to other vessels. My conclusion is that it is likely a Rendili StarDrive, or maybe a very old Mandalorian design.

The Sulon Star shares some lines and general "feel" to Rendili's Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers, particularly in engines. Compare the Star's engine profile with Rendili's and MandalMotor's Dungeon Ships respectively.

http://starwars.wiki...ss_dungeon_ship

Finally too add more support to a possible MandalMotor's/Mandalorian connection compare the Star's ventral spar to that of the ancient Kandosii-type dreadnaught, which also shares many of the same lines especially in the basic design of the prow of the ship.

I almost hate to say it, but a modified Kandosii-type might be perfect for our needs, scrap most if not all the hanger space, troop-quarters, downgrade the Super-Heavy Missiles to Heavy's or Mediums, and upgrade the ship with more modern systems and it might be able to carry say, double to triple the load of the Star-Galleon.

i think there might be a model or two floating around somewhere

The Praetorian-class Frigate got a similar treatment, becoming the Class-6 Bulk Freighter (interestingly enough, the Frigate had more cargo space than the Freighter

wild guess for the stats

Figure a Dreadnaught mk.1 or 2. with regards to sub-light performance, and a mk.2 or mk.3 for the Shields and Hull.

it's said that the Dreadnought was based on the Kandosii, so i feel i can compare the two

Hey John, speaking of the Star-Galleon............ can we has ?

If nothing else, put it with a group of all faction (have a version for all factions) medium sized ships.

you'll have to ask the PR team. i just provide ideas for future rejection

my only thing with the SG is that there is no record in established Canon that i am aware of that suggests that the SG was ever used by Rebel or New Rep forces at any time.

I'd love for it to be used by both sides, but again, its not exactly Canon.

The SG is refrenced on occasion in the books.

While onboard the Katana, Solo wishes the Katana fleet had been SGs for their intruder control systems for example (and someone with him, I forget who, points out if the Katana fleet had been SGs Thrawn would have just destroyed them).

As for SGs, I'd see giving them a mix of weaker weapons, but a very strong hull.

Basically, I'd like to see PR get a host of such ships with weaker armament but some with strong hulls.
They'd be perfect for a defense fleet, they sit there and raise the planets income and can offer light resistance, or just be a damage soak in defensive actions.

That doesn't mean that the NR had any SG's, just that Han knew of their defensives

I think there's an evillejedi Star Galleon model about somewhere. As with most things you guys suggest, it's on our Wanted list.

Whoa, nice. Finally forum loaded properly for me. Usually I get quarter of threads and/or 1/18th of recent post. Defo PR need forum some place different than Revora mess.

Yes what PR in general needs badly are ships, ships and even more ships. Played Supremacy religiously (despite shafted interface I always loved the general idea) and even that Bulk (Neutron) Cruiser was pieces of crap against even few fighters it was always one of my favourite models/ships. Hmm.. OK found CD... will install Sup[Reb] momentarily he, he... Would love to see super sexy Liberator for Rebellion too. Droooooling since release of v 1.2 in anticipation of 1.3. Had to switch to different mods to get my SW space combat fix as 1.2 at some stage just cease to function in one or more ways (well documented).

Haha yeah I forgot to mention (a long time ago) that I modeled the Neutron Star and it's in the development version of the mod right now.

Also I'm working on the mod again, so hi.

The best thing about the Neutron Star is it's cheap. It's fantastic if you are short of cash. They might be slow and a bit obsolete, but great against pirate fleets.   Mark II adds hangars, Mark III adds trubolasers, and the later variants... kepp getting better, (quads go to sextuple lasers)

It's a great second line cruiser. Against anything imperial and modern - they die. They do have 1 weakness - short range fire. They are vulnerable to anything with a decent range, such as Carrack-Class.

Overall, great ship - really useful. It may not be the best militarily, but economically, it's a winner.
