COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO BFME1 MODS 

 

 

This is a quick guide intended for new members who are interested in trying some of our mods.

 

There's a whole lot of mods to choose from, and this guide intends to categorize them in a simple way so it's easy to know what you're getting without having to plow through our hosted mods section. This guide only contains released mods. Mods that are hosted here have a notification behind their title, which means you can go to their Hosted forums here and comment on the mod.

 

I have divided the mods into two categories:

 

BFME1 STANDARD ENHANCEMENT MODS

These mods enhance the standard experience of the game.

- BFME1 Extended Edition [author: DeeZire] 

  This mod makes some interesting changes to the standard factions, most notably giving them larger spellbooks (with awesome new spells), previously disabled heroes, and a deeper strategic gameplay.

  To download and install, GO HERE. Installation instructions can be found there as well.

- Vapula's Hero Mod [author: Vapula]

  This mod adds a number of interesting heroes to the vanilla factions. Included are Ugluk, Isildur, Sauron, Gil-galad, etc.

Unzip the file, cut and paste HeroMod.big into Application Data\My Battle for Middle-earth Files (cannot find it? type %appdata% in your Windows search bar). Then clone your BFME1 shortcut (the one that's probably on your desktop), right click it, go to the Properties, and in the Target field add -mod HeroMod.big. Your whole Target field should read like this: "D:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth ™\lotrbfme.exe" -mod HeroMod.big

- Kings of the West [author: GothmogTheOrc] [HOSTED]

  This mod adds new heroes, units, maps, and an improved AI.

  To download and install, GO HERE. This website also contains a number of smaller, individual mini mods if you want to pick and choose what to add.

- Massive Middle Earth [author: Kwen] [HOSTED]

  An expansive vanilla enhancement mod, adding new heroes, units, and spells.

  To download and install, GO HERE.

BFME1 FACTION MODS

These mods add new faction(s) and often change the original ones as well.

- The Dwarf Holds [author: Nertea & Team] [HOSTED]

  Ever wanted to play a fully developed Dwarven faction in BFME1? This mod adds one, and also greatly changes the original factions with new heroes, units, spells, and buildings.

- The Elven Alliance: Community Edition [author: Celeglin & Rob38] [HOSTED]

  Ever wanted to play a fully developed Elven faction in BFME1? This mod also improves the campaign.

  To download and install, GO HERE.

- Shadow and Flame [author: Mathijs & Team] [HOSTED]

  This mod adds a new, fully developed evil faction, Gundabad. 

  To download and install, GO HERE.

- Return of Shadow [author: Radspakr] [HOSTED]

  This mod adds several new factions and enhances the original factions.

  To download and install, GO HERE.

Well, it is a fairly old game now. Though, you could always setup a LAN match.

 

Nice collection. Though, I am surprised more mods haven't been released for BFME1 to date.

Well, it is a fairly old game now. Though, you could always setup a LAN match.

 

Nice collection. Though, I am surprised more mods haven't been released for BFME1 to date.

 

Or use the T3A:Online server. Haven't quite read up yet, Flameguard?

 

I'm sure there are some people around that would be willing to play some mods...

Now it all makes sense I've been trying to think back and remember "who the hell is Pixel?".

In that case long time no see Flameguard it's always good to see a fellow old schooler around.
