Why did gamespy abandoned C&C games? And what about EA? Are they obliged to support there games? Ok ZH is more than 10 years old but there are

other games 4 or 5 years old.

gamespy his history.

and ea shuts down it´s servers for obvious reasions: money.

it costs money and man-hours to keep the servers running. maintaining, troubleshooting, support etc.

Why did gamespy abandoned C&C games?

GameSpy itself died long ago. Its assets were sold to IGN, who sold it to Glu Mobile in 2012. Earlier this year, Glu announced the shutdown because the support of those servers was so costly that revenue was getting close to expenses. EA had nothing to do with that because it doesn't own the servers. In fact, Westwood Pacific (vanilla Generals) and later EA Los Angeles (Zero Hour, Tiberium Wars, Kane's Wrath, Red Alert 3) only coded bits of the multiplayer features just so they could link to GameSpy's servers.

Are they obliged to support there games?

Since EA owns the franchise, they aren't quite obliged to do anything, as they can do what they want with them, unfortunately.

Yes but it was nice when they took our money promising multiplayer a few years ago. They should at least had an indication in the box that they will support the multiplayer servers for 1, 2  or 10 years

and then it is up to the user to find online players. Thats what I would expect from a company that respects its customers and the money they spend to its products. But I assume that EA is not one of them.

Very few companies support old games. I know only of Blizzard.

The main issue is nearly all Generals games aren't connecting. I know this is mostly due to the age of the game but people have been trying to connect and host games and are giving up in frustration. Is Zero Hour active and are ZH games connecting usually?

The age of the game contributes indeed, but mostly its old multiplayer code. C&C: Online was created from T3A: Online (LotR: BfME 1 and 2, which are newer than Generals); it had a deadline to be released because of GameSpy's announcement about being shutdown on June 30th and a small team working on it. It's on public beta testing stage, so you guys are the majority of the testers. The C&C: Online crew are aware of many problems that happens specifically with Generals and Zero Hour (the other games are more stable at the moment) and their number 1 priority is to fix these issues before bringing stats, automatch/quickmatch and other things.

Red Alert 3 and C&C 4 are not so old games, just 6 and 4 years old.

The most serious problem is the lack of players. They don' t know that the online servers are down for good and they also don' t know about C&C online.

Something must be done for advertisement.

Feel free to help us out in this regard. We are too busy to actively advertise C&C:Online on all community forums/websites that are out there.

Yea Zero Hour doesn't work at the moment, but regular Generals does. No clue why no one is on Generals. But please fix Zero Hour, I still can't connect to the server.
