Hi,
Recently I've become quite interested in collecting The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game figures.

As a general question as regards painting the figures, is it worth it to buy the Citadel Colours recommended to paint the figures with?

They are good but they are a small fortune. Completely overpriced and ridiculously named.

P.S. I must add that I've used thinned down house paint and it worked perfectly fine. (It was glow in the dark - and I mixed some with some Citadel silver paint to make "Ithildin").

Yeah, the price put me off a bit. I was considering just thinning down some artist's acrylic paints as the official colours seemed perhaps like a bit of a novelty thing. The consistency of the paint was one of my main worries, and trying to work out a perfect ratio of paint to water seemed quite complicated considering I've never worked with the real stuff.

Thanks for the advice! :p

Honestly, I like the Citadel lines for everything. I used to use them on my models (when I still collected) and they were always far superior in their results than using acrylics in my opinion, in terms of being able to cover areas more quickly, drying faster, and being more vibrant. Also, they've better than acrylic for drybrushing. On the other hand, they are expensive. They used to be £1.50 per pot, how much are they now? Don't bother with the washes though, they're crap.

Almost doubled the price in pounds.

Another high quality model paint that I have tried and liked (their washes are better for what I was using them for) is Vallejo. You can look around on the internet for websites with better prices and better shipping than what is in the product's store.

I have a lot of familiarity with Citadel Colors! I wonder what the people of this forum think of the recent Citadel Color app that Games Workshop recently made for Android and other phones' operating systems? Also, has anyone tried mixing one color with another to get a custom color? Because I did that with a 3-to-1 ratio of Purple-to-Red to get the Wine-like color I wanted for the "silk" parts of my Easterling miniatures.
