In Topic: 3.3.4 and saves from earlier patch

24 September 2018 - 08:43 PM

Pretty sure it's deliberate.  Back when save/load restoration was first revealed, AlexB mentioned that they wouldn't transfer between updates.

There's an obvious down side to that, but there's an up side as well: saves tend to get mucked up when transferring to new versions anyway.  Even if they actually did manage to work on the whole, they'd likely be glitchy as heck.

In future, if you know there's an update coming it's best to finish up any "in progress" missions, then update.

In Topic: MO 3.3 // Campaign, Cooperative & Challenge Discussion

I'm just happy to see that (Player) Foehn finally have use of the Heavy Trooper/Knightframe in campaign.

Given the arctic environment, could this be the Bering Strait and the beginnings of the Last Bastion?

In Topic: MO 3.3 // Game Bugs

Very minor bug, a few Drillers failed to escape after dropping their troops.

I had the same sort of bug on Insomnia a couple of times - AI Voyagers refusing to leave after dropping their troops.  Given the general lack of space for base construction on the initial landing zone, I ended up having to destroy them myself via force firing.

In Topic: I Wonder What The Foehn Origin Missions Are About?

24 January 2018 - 09:33 PM

Sooooo, noone's gonna talk about the " Orbital Strike " ability of the Quetzal ? Surely that Orbital Satellite didn't come out of nowhere. Maybe the Foehn acquires some in Tainted Empire, given the presence of the Allied bases ?

Hm.

Just a note: I would think that Yuri would try to interdict anything orbital, considering that he is building up on the moon and clearly has space capabilities.
Could it be something aboard the Coronia? Like a high powered Boidmachine, that can shoot across entire continents?

Come to think of it, we don't actually know what altitude the Coronia sits at.  Low orbital could be a possibility, right?

As for Yuri's space forces, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the Soviets utterly wreck the moonbase while they're up there, and he just doesn't see the point in setting up a replacement.  Why would he need to when the Mental Omega (assuming it's the cause of his ultimate victory) is activated shortly after?

And could Yuri can even find the theoretical orbital weapons platforms?  There's a lot of empty space up there, and if the platforms are properly camouflaged to minimise the possibility of someone catching a tell tale reflective glint/properly scattering radar return waves, he'll have a heck of a lot of trouble spotting one if he doesn't know where he needs to be looking.  His fancy mind tricks won't help him either if they're automated.

...I'm also wondering the moonbase was ever supposed to be a proper, permanent military stronghold at all.  Even if Yuri did control most of orbital space, shifting troops up and down would take a lot of effort.  So perhaps it was more intended as a research and training facility... somewhere to train and develop Libra in relative safety (for her, and for Epsilon - imagine if she snapped.  At least she'd only take out one remote base).  By the time the Soviets turn up, the moonbase's purpose could be already complete and they've mostly wasted the time and resources needed to make the trip.

In Topic: Countdown timer in campaign missions is too fast.

08 January 2018 - 09:16 PM

The fastest speed is 6, and I smell lazy coding involved in the timer

So just checking here; there are definitely seven points on that slider: slowest, slower, slow, normal, fast, faster, fastest.  Are you saying there's actually no difference between the top two settings?

(I'm not being confrontational here, I'm legitimately curious.  If it is a case of two settings being effectively the same, then yeesh, Westwood really did have a lazy coding day.)
