Something I think this mod could really use, something that I thought worked very well in the 'extended edition' mod for BFME1 was the change to arrow towers such that one must garrison archers in them to even have them functional. It's almost too easy to set up extremely powerful defenses in such a way that your entire army can leave the base and it still needs little manual intervention for its defense. This is especially true for those factions with wall upgrades.

Even if they just had to be occupied in general to function, and perhaps got a bonus for stronger units and maybe longer range for archers. I think it would really add a lot to the gameplay to be required to command your defenses more and perhaps help level the playing field a bit for those factions without much in the way of defense.

Also, this was mentioned several posts up in some way, but troop formations that allow you to join multiple units together was a very good aspect of that mod. Keep archers protected behind a group of pikemen for example, requiring the enemy to flank you with cavalry to deal great damage to the archers without going through the pikemen first. There were some very nice formation options.

Finally, I'm not sure it's possible, but I would love to see the ability to use an allies structures as well. Garrison troops or use tunnels and such. It would also be very handy to be able to build walls and defenses inside an allies control circle.

In Topic: Isengard faction

I've been playing around with Isengard quite a bit lately. It seems very lacking. A thin choice of units, heroes, and siege weapons(which really need help, I find the faction horrible at sieging; nothing like their siege of Helm's Deep) and finally their very weak spell book make them less than adequate.

Summon Smaug was an interesting addition, but it only seems to be about even to the meteor storm in power, where it should be as devastating as the fire rain that Mordor has, if not even greater since Smaug has the possibility of being killed. I find summon dragon to be a joke all together. It's a slow ground unit like the Balrog but has very few hit points, no special attacks, and seems very susceptible to arrows. I hardly even find it worth it to bother with the spell, as the dragon often dies before it can do much damage; sometimes none. Isengard used to be one of my favorite factions, but was reduced to the my second least favorite, only besting Moria which I also used to enjoy.

More than anything, I think they need a boost in siege power. In the story, their temporary victory comes from their explosives, and one can mirror this with two units. Neither unit is particularly useful in the game, especially in the mod, but I think they should be an important aspect of Isengard siege tactics. Also, with no wall upgrades available, they aren't all that impressive at defense either. They're pretty good at unit to unit combat, but Mordor outdoes them there as well as defending and laying siege rather easily.

Isengard lacks in heroes, and although most of them are quite nice, a few of them could use an abilities overhaul. The Fel Beasts are not only sort of lame(though I have no suggestions on what flying characters one could replace them with), they are also the same cost as the good factions' eagles and are nowhere near as powerful.

Finally, I think workers should have their Command Cost reduced to 1. They are completely worthless except to attempt to bring down an Ent and take up many valuable command points.

In Topic: THE BUG HUNT - for Beta 4.6!

23 December 2007 - 08:36 PM

This is a fantastic mod! Thanks for all the hard work on this! Keep it up! Here are some things I've seen so far:

1.Appears to be any
2.Any
3.Gollum
4.I saw the post in this thread about multiple Drogoths, but I could't tell if this was an identical issue. A few times now I've seen Gollum appear as both the Ring Stealer and the Ring Bearer on the map at the same time. In my experience, this seems to happen when one faction controls the ring stealer and it incorrectly causes a ring bearer to spawn, allowing multiple rings or ring heroes to appear on the map.

1.Any
2.Moria
3.Smaug?
4.Excuse me if I misunderstood, but I swear that I read in the .pdf that you'd changed Moria's dragon spell to summon Smaug, however the dragon I summon is a small, generic looking black dragon.

1.Any
2.Any
3. N/A
4. The wall self repair is great, but if a wall hub drops, you can never get the wall and hub reconnected. Instead you just have to 'plug holes' with other walls or structures, which starts to look rather silly. Perhaps you could make hubs repairable in the same way that walls are?
