With respect, the designation Reef Home-type is, as you say, an example of making s*** up. It's a completely fanon designation. Admittedly, so is my personal designation of Solidarity-type, but it comes with more thought and actual research than "The Reef Home isn't given a specified type. The Wingless Liberty doesn't have a name. Why not just bang the two together?"

As I said, it's not that big of a deal that doesn't change gameplay in any way, and I certainly won't be offended if Reef Home-type keeps being used. It was just being discussed in this thread so I figured that I may as well bring it up. :)

Sure thing.

If you scroll down to the bottom of this one, you can see the image of the "Wingless Liberty" from behind, as well as an explanation in the Behind the Scenes which states that that ship class was made into the MC80a in the EGTW.

While, as has been mentioned, the Reef Home was only made into a Liberty-type due to game mechanics, there simply isn't any evidence to suggest that it was a wingless type. The name was only adopted by fans as a class name because The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook never specified one way or the other whether it was a Liberty-type or not. Note that EGTW also points out the difference between the MC80 Liberty-type and the MC80a, identifying the latter as a "lean, combat-focused variant cruiser", corresponding with PR's identification of it as the Tector to the MC80's Imperial.

Now, given the fact that we have a number of vessels that have categorically been identified as MC80a's at hand, it seems silly to rely on an outdated name for the ship class that was made before the Reef Home was identified as a Liberty-type or before the "Wingless Liberty" was finally tied to the MC80a.

While any of these names would be more suitable from a canon standpoint, I'd like to draw special attention to the Solidarity in particular. The Solidarity was gifted to the Alliance before the Mon Calamari "officially" joined up with the Rebellion, and was the first MC80a to ever be used by the Alliance Fleet. If memory serves, the MC80a was first deployed roughly around the Yavin period, give or take a couple of years, which makes the Solidarity a likely and possible candidate as the first ship of its class.

I really should stress that this is no big deal. I'm happy to keep using the MC80 Reef Home-type since that name has existed since, what, the nineties? Plus the name doesn't affect gameplay in any way, shape or form. That said, it would show a nice adherence to canon and willingness to adapt as canon changes. Plus, if you'll allow me a personal moment, it would make me a pretty happy fanboy since, as you can probably tell, I've been advocating referring to it as the MC80a Solidarity-type for quite a while now.

Yeah, sorry bob but that is actually one of the bigger continuity errors in PR.

The Reef Home was a Liberty TYPE MC80 cruiser.

Yeah, the Liberty and Reef Home types seen ingame were pretty much the same ship.

They just looked different because the Mon Cal's design each ship different.

Apologies for rehashing an old discussion. While the Reef Home itself is indeed a Liberty-type, the actual class of ship referred to in this mod as the Reef Home type is canonically a different class from the Liberties, currently only known so far as the MC80a. I believe it's the endnotes for the EGTW that states that the MC80a is intended to be the wingless Liberties.

On the subject of names, I never liked Reef Home-type since, not only is their nothing linking the Reef Home with this class, but EaW has linked it with the Liberty-type. Personally I prefer the designation MC80 Solidarity-type. The Solidarity is the first MC80a given over to the Rebel Fleet and it follows nicely with the tradition of naming the class of ship after the first ship produced (even if the Star Wars universe doesn't always seem to adhere to this tradition.)
