&The client installs and runs fine, but when I start any match, be it campaign or skirmish, as soon as I hit "Launch/Launch Game", the client pops away for a brief moment before coming back. In skirmish I am shunted back to the skirmish lobby, with the campaign screen I am shunted back to the main menu.
I've installed the game per instruction and all files should be in order. Both gamemd.exe, Syringe.exe & MentalOmegaClient.exe are run as administrator.

Please help. This game is awesome and I can't wait to play it!

RESOLVED: This user had RockPatch/NPatch installed.
i got the same issue, uninstall 3.0 and yuri and re install them again, did the compatibility thing of xp sp3 and administration. what should i do?

"Impossible" is relative. Remove Ares.dll and see what is possible already. Instead of seeing that, or the endless hours of work that went into that to make it happen, you see Ares as "the problem". Though I don't want to pick single individuals to rant at them for their opinion.
With every new release, Ares got smaller, faster, more efficient, and more feature-laden. And so did Yuri's Revenge. Things are now possible that really were unthinkable only a few years ago. With over 1000 features, new options, changes, and bug fixes, the game should be as stable as never seen before.
Several exploits were fixed, uncounted original game bugs that resulted in Internal Errors were removed, and countless minor details were added for a better gaming experience.
Alas, this work goes almost completely unrecognized. Or the appreciation for some reason just goes to the MO team. At least I don't see it.
I see that Ares is considered the sum of its shortcomings (and even the shortcomings of the original game engine), not measured by what it actually does achieve. Maybe you don't remember how the original Yuri's Revenge is in terms of features and stability. Maybe it's because you guys are still on Ares 0.4 because of MO 3.0. You have no idea how often gamers complain about how stupid I am for not fixing Ares because MO crashes when starting a second match. It was so many it prompted me to add a FAQ item just for that. I was made aware of this bug one day by Gluk-v48 and it was fixed the following night (iirc). That was two and a half years ago. Talking of development speed...
The real reason there has not been progress on Ares lately is that I, being the only remaining active developer, am not motivated to go on. (This can't be fixed by saying thanks now, so please don't try.) I've mentioned that I'm frustrated to Speeder and the MO crew multiple times, as early as 2014, but things didn't change. If things didn't change by now, they'll never change.
So the issue is not really missing source code, nor things being too complicated or even impossible or what not. That never stopped the Ares devs while there were still more, and it didn't stop me. If you would go back to 2007 and tell people of Ares as it is today, I'm sure nobody would believe you. "Impossible" is relative.
Having said that, it's impossible I'll go on like this. I don't see a point going on, when all feedback I get back is negative like "Ares crashed!", "Ares doesn't support that!" and "That's the fault of the Ares devs!". I don't like that my work is commonly made invisible by hiding it behind phrases like "the Ares devs" in the first place. I do have a name, and if it were Ares devs, me stopping wouldn't put the entire project on hiatus. But as it's really just me, well... do the math yourselves.
If you as mostly gamers here now think, whoo, never seen this guy, but he is so bitter: I wished you would have seen my enthusiasm during the last six and a half years of continued effort to make Ares better and to trying to contribute a share to make other people's ideas happen.
Hey man..
Just wanna tell you that there are people who love your work, The thing is is that most people just say it to themselves secretly...
another thing to add is many don't know who made Ares, should be something like credits in the game.

i can't tell if i should be more shocked to see, someone calling him out and getting a reply, or how speeder replied in the first place
and you people can play the final countdown, i'll keep listening to queen songs
I'm soon to be fed up and done with MO update. seriously.
