Yeah my friend is using a no-cd patch. And I haven't played multiplayer with SEE yet. I have played multiplayer with the vanilla via gameranger not problems with that. 
Bah it is so annoying that the game is not for sale anymore. EA could have at least made it free ware in some way or another. We will try with the virtual images. The only thing I am still worried about, is the serial code.
But hopefully that won't be a problem with the virtual cd's. Thank you for your advice. I will post if the issue is resolved or not.

another quick question.

Will the Lothlorien faction be specifically focused on Lorien? Or Will there be subfaction to choose from? (like mirkwood for example)
Or is it too early to reveal any information about it?
