I've never had a problem with it before. I am an athiest myself, I have no belief in God, Devil, Heaven or Hell.trust me on this one, and don't say it to an atheist... you will receive a lecture. Unless the person is really cool, then you may be ok.usually i just say "At least there in a better place now."
I say it because they are usually at peace now. Almost every time I have said it the person that had died was very sick, and in pain.
One time I did get somewhat of a lecture. They had said something to this extant (not exact words but pretty close) "A better place? Yeah right, he was a complete asshole, with any luck he's being tortured in hell"
Wish I still knew german :( Havnt bee able to speak it since I was young.
