Can either of you connect to a random lobby?

Does either of you use a vpn?
Are both computers firewall deactivated? Both these things could interfere with getting a connection.

We both have the collection from origin. I did some stuff before finding this to get my game running, my friend bought it and followed the guide from here.

for c&c: generals zero hour it says "unable to connect to other players"

for c&c: generals it says "failed to interogate" (forgot the rest but something about firewall, but we both have firewall fully turned off)

 

this is the first time we're trying to use this so any help would be appreciated

From my experience you have to play a skrimish or online game in order to make the map folder appear at the directory named above, have you tried that first?
