The Developer Playthrough for Mental Omega missions on Mental goes on. Three new videos have been uploaded to our YouTube channel presenting the updated missions of Act One. One of them includes the reveal of a new infantry unit for the United States.

In Soviet Mission 04: Side Effect the Russians see the unexpected consequences of their actions as the Pacific Front army attempts to make a landing in their homeland. A game-breaking bug which made completion of the mission impossible has been fixed for the next release.

Yuri's Epsilon Mission 04: Shipwrecked is a twisted scenario in which Yuri uses the magic skills of an Engineer to steal the Allied technology and use it against them in order to sink the American Aircraft Carriers and weaken Allied strength in the sea. It's an unique Allies vs Allies battle you won't see that often in the campaign.

In the updated version of Allied Mission 05: Bad Apple the player acquires access to the new infantry unit which is unique to the United States. The Riot Trooper is a heavily armed soldier with a long-range hi-tech grenade weapon which allows him to clear enemy garrisons while keeping the buildings intact. This logic, which debuted in Command & Conquer Generals, is now also possible in Mental Omega thanks to Ares Expansion DLL.

You know, this kinda makes me wonder, if there'll be something like a video or three about all the changes and new stuff made to the existing sides, because they seem to all have large changes added recently.

I like "Riot Trooper", but I believe the fact that they can swim looks weird.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the focus on naval assets in this upcoming version; starting with Naval Mines, the return of Dolphins, and now these specialized infantry, the fact PsiCorps can use Elites and the Soviets having Repair Drones suddenly isn't too crazy anymore.

Just to mend my curiosity, though, am I right to think the Dolphins' head-mounted Prism gun is a reference to this? :p

So strange! The US already has Warhawk, so it is quite unnecessary to add a new T2 anti-infantry & structure unit! What United State needs most is an anti-armor unit, just like EA has Mirage Tank and PF has Zephyr!

On the contrary, I think PF needs Riot Trooper, because PF doesn't have powerful T2 anti-infantry unit. Besides, Riot is a long-ranged unit, which means it can play well with Zephyr.

I agree. The riot trooper definitely seems more suitable for the Pacific Front. Also lore-wise, because the Pacific Front used units that come from cilian and law enforcement equipment. Norio did so too.

Perhaps they could be changed to being "on loan" from the PF?

I don't recall them actually being trainable in the A05 vid, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch.  And if they stick to being US units, then it could be said that the US liked their performance in this mission so much that they basically pinched the idea.

Riot trooper is Tier 3 unit. And honestly for me it fits USA more than PF.

Riot Troopers do fit in more with the Pacific Front, owing to their naval and cyrogenic use. The fact they're virtually law enforcement is also a major point.

Pacific Front gets something else. The Riot Trooper's weapon is not cryogenic.

... It's not? Huh. Looking forward to see what Japan gets, regardless.
