So, I kinda want to start by saying that when I saw the mod recommended to me on youtube, I thought I would give it a try; never played Red Alert 2 or YR but the mod looked cool so why not. Interestingly the game didn't want to work with me (took a lot of set up just to get Yuri's Revenge to run, but MO seemed like it liked to run at 1-5 fps at all settings) but I like tinkering with things like this and I have a few tools I used for AoE2 that I applied to try and fix this and I was able to do so. Game runs very decently on a generic Toshiba laptop running Windows 10, and I tested for a decent speed by running two AI on Mental difficulty. Figured it would make more models. Didn't slow down once for the first 70-ish minutes so yea.
If MO is running slowly and none of the normal renderers are working, I would recommend (at least before uninstalling) downloading Aqrit's DDraw.dll. Do not put this file into your Windows Directory because when I did this a lot of bad things happened. You should see two files, the ddraw.dll and the aquit.cfg file. Copy both of these files into your Mental Omega folder (I would imagine if Yuri's Revenge or Red Alert 2 is running slow to do the same to those file locations). Open the configuration file after moving them and set the following values:
RealDDrawPath = AUTO
BltMirror = 1
BltNoTearing = 0
ColorFix = 1
DisableHighDpiScaling = 1
FakeVsync = 1
FakeVsyncInterval = 0
ForceBltNoTearing = 1
ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 1
NoVideoMemory = 1
SingleProcAffinity = 1
ShowFPS = 1
After this, try all the renderer's to see if you find one that works. Mine tends to work with TS-Draw, but your's could be different.
I figured if it took me 2-3 days to do all of this to get a mod and game to work on my laptop, someone else could use the help too. Now I just gotta figure out how to actually play this well.
