I wish a new team would do this, but I doubt it would do justice to the original.... and I remember Speeder and his team wouldn't do a redo of Mental Omega to other engines at this time.

If OpenRA has the Ares 1.0+ features, MO would have had the opportunity to run as an Indie and standalone mod of RA2 YR.

If OpenSAGE was complete by now, there should be Mental Omega 4.0 as an Indie.

As of today, OpenSAGE first version is officially released with limited features.

Remaking MO on a 3D engine would require LOTS of effort and time, because original game's assets would have to be recreated too. Considering the amount of assets, this will never be completed just like all the mods that try to bring RA2 on a 3D engine.

I would certainly enjoy seeing some units in 3D however. Foehn would look very cool on TW/KW engine with all the shaders and stuff.

If this would happen, I would leave it to somebody else willing to make it for the SAGE.

I might prefer SAGE 2.0 since it features Naval combat like Red Alert 2.

SAGE 2.0 is terrible to mod tho, it doesn't allow custom music, menus, etc. (to some extent)

I think devs will have somethign to say about this. Let's start with simple question - have you asked for permission first?

AFAIK OpenRA doesn't yet have a fully reimplemented set of YR features, let alone Ares features on which MO relies heavily. I suppose OpenRA has better voxel rendering (show pics btw) and unit control/UI options, but I'm not sure if you can actually port MO completely at this point (not talking about the missions obviously). Is the situation in fact different?

Worry not about that "port" - it will never get anywhere, guy can't comprehend anything. I know him for a year now, he tried to participate in ORA-RA2, but he couldn't do anything properly at all.

EDIT: Another reason why this is a dead idea in the way he wants is that OpenRA will never circumvent the MO mix protection - OpenRA requires mixes to have the XCC database within, it does not bother with hashing back the UIDs to filenames.
