...but I have already installed 2.01 and then 2.02. What to do?

This issue is usually fixed by applying one of the following solutions:

  • Make sure you've got the original, unedited game. We have downloads here. Forshire's editions often cause this issue.
  • Make sure you have installed 2.01 BEFORE you installed 2.02.
  • Make sure you are either starting RotWK through the T3A:Online launcher OR have it hooked (from the Hook menu in the launcher) when you start your RotWK shortcut.
  • Make sure you are running everything related to the game and T3A:Online as administrator. That includes the launcher, the game shortcut, and the game's .exe files in the installation folder.
  • In your Options.ini, make sure the following line is present: HasGotOnline = yes

If the above solutions don't work for you, please reinstall the game and follow these instructions closely.

usually manually installing the latest EA official patch helps, afterwards re-installing the fan patches and running as admin

"To know what question we may reasonably propose is in itself a strong evidence of sagacity or intelligence. For if a question be in itself incongruous and begs for uncalled-for answers, it holds, sometimes, besides embarrassing the proposer, the disadvantage to seduce the unguarded listener into giving absurd answers, and we are presented with the ridiculous spectacle of one (as the ancients said) milking the he-goat, and the other holding a sieve beneath."

Sorry to up but there are a probleme with this

acutally if we want to play a mod (so in 2.01) we cant launch in admin mod because if we do it will said we dont have the cd (admin mod dont detect the mini cd image) so it work in 2.02 because we have a new game.dat but if we need to play in 2.01 for mods or other it will mostly not work

and there are 95% chance we will get this need update error

I think it's because ROTWK can't handle BFMEII 1.9. That's maybe why it keeps telling us to update

I have resolved this exact problem by making sure my BFMEII base game is working properly. I never started it and never did the whole "drop options.ini into %appdata"-stuff that you must do for ROTWK in order for it to work.

So make sure your BFMEII is working properly. (I am using verison 1.06 for BFMEII and 2.01 for ROTWK and it works).

I have BFMEI and BFMEII working properly and online on patch 1.09.  Rotwk will not even load up because an error message appears.   If I use the patch 1.06 on BFMEII then load up Rotwk, Rotwk will load up just fine, but the online part freezes up and wants me to update.  If I go back to the 1.09 patch the Rotwk will go back to not working with the error message and then I have to also replace my game.dat file for BFMEII again to make the online work for it.  So there are definitely some issues.  Not sure, but it might be out of our hands and hopefully there will be a better fix or update of the patches so things run smoother.

Also it would be nice if they showed which version people were on when in the waiting room / game chat.  Most of the time online I try an join a game and it says I have a different version so I can join.  I'm assuming that means patch version.  Not everyone is on the same version so that makes it hard to play with everyone.  Or make the patches backwards compatible so on the newest patch you can still play with the older patches or versions.  That would solve it.

Okay boys I had this issue for the last few days and just got by it.  For me the problem was that I just needed to hook ROTWK and then run the lotrbfmeep1.exe file in administrator mode which should prompt a T3A online launcher.  After that I launched Rotwk from the launcher and was able to get past the online screen without seeing the you need an update error.

As someone noted above you need to be on 1.06 on BFME2 in order to run ROTWK so make sure you switch that patch over before attempting to run.

Hope this helps someone as this forum was quite helpful to me.

Just wanted to update that I need to run the file everytime I boot rotwk.  If I try to launch from the T3A shortcut off my desktop I will hit the error.  I think this is because it doesn't auto run as administrator if you just open the client.

Steps for full clarity:

Hook rotwk in T3A online launcher then close it.

Enter your programx86 electronic arts, lotr rotwk folder.

Right click lotrbfme2ep1.exe and select Run as administrator.

This should open the T3A launcher.

Then select rotwk

You should be able to proceed past the online screen and login without the update crash.

You need to do this everytime you want to load the game.

I also uninstalled the version of rotwk and reinstalled the iso that was on the guide linked above but i'm not sure that had any impact as I didn't try running the previous versions file in administrator.
