There may not be any Ore Miners at all, and there certainly won't be any that are buildable as standard by players.

See HERE for the discussion on this.

Nice stuff... say, Gilbear, have you tried doing any other forms of 2D art before? Be it traditional or digital?

Thanks Godwin :p

Yes, I am a pretty good draughtsman, and I used to do life art drawing (IOW, drawing naked models in an art class). I also paint models (GW stuff) to a pretty high standard too.

I'm not that great at rough sketching though, and pretty poor at most computer art. Not much practice, and not all that much incentive really. Also, I'm not too good with cartoons or other similar styles - I generally prefer a more "classical" art style.

once you can draw well, you can do anything art-related. Serious. :) It's the multidisciplinary foundation - observation of light and shadow, sensitivity to details, confidence, and so on

rough drawing... just let loose, take it as experimenting with something stupid ;)

I brought this up because from the way you make voxels, it's clear that you're using a lot of your artistic side

I want to put more stuff up, but all this GFX work takes time. I'd rather show completed stuff than WIP really... That way, ppl viewing the work know what they are gonna get.

I get the impression that the re-done units are bigger than the old ones.

could we see a pic with an old and new unit side by side just for comparison please ? just to satisfy my curiosity :ninja:

You're probably correct since MG and MigEater try to go by the true scale of vehicles, with the exception of Planes and naval Vessels off course.

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Andre 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Hmm, the new models aren't that far off the old CR units really. At least, in general terms. I'll get you a shot this weekend to show you.

Also, the CR units won't be "scaled" like the DDay ones, partly because most modern units are so much bigger than their WW2 equivalents that it would look akward. I have tried to keep a rough proprtional size between the units though, so a T-80U will be lower than an Abrams by the right proportion for example.

Don't forget infantry :ninja: If you put them to the right scale you would barely even see them in YR. It'd look like Sudden Strike 2 (ie, crap)

Well, I will be reducing the infantry size a bit, but not much. In RA2, reducing infantry too much makes them harder to see/select. Also, as this is meant to be fairly realistic all the infantry will be pretty similar in appearance anyway, and if they are all small as well, then they are gonna be very difficult to differentiate (remember the problems TW1 had :ninja: ).

Scales will be different for different things; Capital ships will be in proportion with each other, but not with smaller ships. Tanks will be in proportion with each other but not infantry. Buildings will be in proportion with each other but not the landscape. I think you can see where I'm goig! :D. Basically, I feel that using different scales is a better approach for gameplay reasons, even though all the proportions within each scale will be pretty accurate where possible.

For D-day I work differently, I try to get everything in scale with each other unless the game limits me i.e. ships & planes etc

The way MG is scaling things for CR is the best way for modern weapons tho, if he did do it in 1:10 scale like D-day, half a dozen MBT’s would fill the screen up & it would just look really messy ;)
