Dante's W3D Importer for 3DS Max 5 (works in Max 4 too. Note: will not work with Max 6 or 7 due to fundamental changes in Max's UI and Maxscript)

to install the script on the menu tabs, you need to :

place them in the correct directories (see the install notes and the dirs the zip directs to)

In 3dsmax:
-RC on the iconbar of the tabs
-pick "customize"
-"category" dropdown list and find "W3D importer" at the bottom
-choose "Import a W3D file" and drag it to the icon tab
-RC on the place where you've dropped the icon (it sometimes stays grey) and choose "text button"
-SAVE your layout!! (or you'll have to redo it next time)
-next time your text will appear on your button...

-just click the button and it will open a dialog box of the W3D importer.
-choose File-Select W3D from the menu
-you get a filefinder dialog box.
-Point to the W3d file you want to import
-hit the [import] button ( right/down on the W3D importer dialog box.
-a status bar will appear during loading..
Viola...

The DDS thingy is a plugin for photoshop/paint shop pro that allows you to open and save DDS files, and to install it you simply put it in the plugins folder in your image software's install folder.
