The dilemma is that I want units to be delivered by cargo plane, but I'm not sure the best method to make this happen is?

Explanation of each:

Make a model of the airfield, with a transport plane on top
Basically the war factory is just an airfield, with a transprt plane on it that just sits there the whole time, and when you build a unit it comes out the back of the transport. The easiest way to do it, but not realistic

Make a model of the airfield, but have the unit construct anim be a plane flying in
Probably the best way to do it, and the one I'm leaning towards. You know how the door goes up when you build something out of the war factory? Make the anim instead be a plane flying in from way up high and landing, then taking off. But I'd have to time it right so the unit appears as the plane lands, which will be difficult, but I'm sure doable.

Quit whining and do it the hard way
Phoib's method of creating a dummy unit, which automatically dies on creation, but signals the OCL to make a plane appear and (para)drop off units. Problem is, you need to edit the AI to make room for the extra dummies, and its buggy as all the values need to be perfect or it spawns a billion planes :!: . Not cool, but has potential if I find the patience

If you can understand all that, you're amazing :) If you can't, just look at what it'll appear to be and forget all the technical crap

Transport plane on top.
Go for that one, sounds easy. You can always improve it anther time if you know how.

I may have to do the first option. I'm having trouble. I animated it, but when it gets ingame and I build something, it disapears, then reappears after the unit appears.

It might be crazy... but what about simply borrowing code from the Reinforcement Pad? Have the OCL for bringing the vehicle in work the same as the Reinforcement Pad... and have it triggered by the construction button.

When you say Phoib's method do you mean the guy that lead True War?

Yeah, that's him. For now we're going with the old "built out of a war factory method" for the first release, and then changing it to have units flown in for later releases.

Yes that sounds like a good idea. Has Phoib ever thought about bringing Truw War back? Is it a possibility? :uh:

You mean for Generals or RA2? The Ra2 one is still floating around somewhere, and he started a Generals one but scrapped it later. If you can find him he might be able to point you in the direction of the Ra2 one.

There was one for RA2 and Yuri's revenge, which I have. I was wondering if he would ever start the one for Generals up. The team never finished any of their mods completely. Lots of people said they would comeback, but its been awhile. There mod was the best, imo. :shiftee: Well, if you can ask him if hes thinking about coming back.

Just try to do it the most effective way. If having a plane fly down is too hard then you shouldn't do it.

if you can do the airplane, theres no reason not to do it, it'll look better, and you'll feel better about doing it.

Quite whining and do it the hard way :)

Yes, I finally signed up at Origin (I'm Shadow, did a bit of work a long time ago, remember me?)

I'm perfectly willing to code the hard way, however, this feature is currently deprecated (ooooh, I got to use that in a sentence :) ) from the mod. If you convince Detail to upload the old Project Link archives, we might look at some other features to add.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Too cute! | Server Status: If you can read this, it's up |

[hint]which is why I need the Defcon levels finished up[/hint]  ;)2  :blinky:

Hmmm, I think someone else needs a hint too. I've got the coding more or less done. The superweapons are just about done, and all that is left is balancing them. Beyond that, we still need to do the AI, since the powerplants are gone.

You helped me get this off the ground, of course I remember you. I should probably add you into the credits...

Yeah, I cut a lot of stuff that would be either too time consuming, too ineffective for players or too difficult. For now, I'm basically looking to get this out the door, [hint]which is why I need the Defcon levels finished up[/hint] ;)2 :blinky:
