Here are a few questions for the more skilled Modders out there :)

1) How can I change the main menu background for my mod? I don't want anything fancy like an ingame imagery (like the Argonath), but perhaps simply to replace the Witchking poster with another pic of my choosing? I know it's possible but I just cannot locate the file.

2) Is it possible to change forged blades for evil sides to be colored Red? If so, how? And I mean, is there an easy way to do it without having to create new models from scratch?

3) How can I change the descriptions? I have modified the "lotr.str" file but I have no idea where to place it. I put it in my mod's INI.big named as "data/lotr.str" but it doesn't work... :(

4) How can I change what stance the AI uses by default? The AI always seems to use "Aggressive stance" and that's problematic because with the way I have changed stance modifiers, it sucks :p

5) Where the hell is the Shade of the Wolf? :D I've tried looking everywhere in the INI but I must be blind, because I cannot find it! All I need actually is its "codename" so I can put a "-ShadeOfWolf" on the objectfiler of Cripple and Morgul blade in gamedata. :p

Thanks in advance ^_^

nope, that won't do you anything good for the background ^_^

1) well, you gotta wait... many has done it, they'll answer soon enough :p

2) I think you'll have to change the model (or the skin, but mostly the model I belive)

3) it's suppose to be in data\lotr.str... but not in your ini.big :) if you don't use the -mod command, then you'll have to place it back in somewhere, but since I want you to use the -mod command, I won't tell you where this somewhere is :D search for -mod ;)

4) no idea....

5) looked for it, but I didn't find it.... it wasn't in the obvious places...

wierd how I post when I dont' really bring you any answers :p sorry

And I thought "cool, that was fast!" :p

At least no1 is encouraging :p

Now the cryptic part... Say, about that -mod command? I did a search and from what I gather it's a way to make a shortcut to your mod without adding anything in the actual game folders, but I still don't understand how that helps my lotr.str to work ^_^ Do I need to put it back into "Lang\English" or somesuch in another folder and use it with a shortcut?

And if I do that, how do I get the shortcut to work with my INI.big file that is re-named so it's before the game's INI alphanumerically and therefore overrides the files I've changed in it?

place it in the data folder inside AINI.big :p (example name) if it doesn't work then, I won't tell you what to do :p -mod way is the best :)

it's late, and I'm somewhat lazy ^_^

create a modding folder, where you gather all of your files and follow the exact same hierarchy EA used.
For example, lotr.str would go to data\lotr.str

Then, use the -mod command as explained in many threads.

as for 1.

use the -noshellmap command in your shortcut (same as you proceeded with -mod), and the shellmap will be replaced by a still image, art\textures\installload.jpg.

2. Don't quote me on this, but I think the color of the forged blades are ARGS defined. That's not of much help, but that word should gather some more knowledgeable help.

The -mod command didn't work, I get a game.dat crash with an error about one of my modifiers in the "gamedata" ini that I wasn't seeing before. I assume it means I have to rename my .big to "INI.big" and then add all of the game's INI.big's files to it, so in the end it's a modified version of the original with nothing missing?

you dont need to add all the files just the ones you have modified. Make sure u save them as the right file eg commandset.ini is saved as data\ini\commandset.ini, also is your origanal ini in the ROTWK files cause i think that would help.

you don't have to rename it to ini.big.... but you can't have the gamedata.ini in there :p It's EA's kind of love to us modders ^_^ instead look at the topic "Tool to fix -mod command (v1.03)" :p it should be 2nd from the top now...

I saw that tool but it looks too pro for me :p
I don't even know what a .bat file is. ^_^

I guess it doesn't matter, I'll do it my old way. If all else fails I'll replace the english.big directly for the lotr.str file, and ignore the background image. Not a terrible loss...

I won't bother with forged blades if they need new models.

But I still need a way to change what stance the AI uses by default :( That and the codename for Shade of the Wolf :p

I found how to change the background screen, I put it in the .big file under the name "art\compiledtextures\in\installload.jpg" instead of "art\compiledtextures\installload.jpg" :) The only problem is that it looks distorted, I can fix that with trial and error I hope, but if anyone has any clue why that would be so I'd like to hear it :xcahik_:

The lotr.str is still not working under as "data\lotr.str"... :(

Still looking for answers concerning Shade of the Wolf and Stance AI.

is the background the exact same size as the original?

if you use the -mod command, lotr.str should work in that place. try putting an empty file as lotr.str, and then see if all strings are missing from the game

For changing Descriptions and etc :
after the changes you made for the files containing in English.big , you must build a new English.big file .
then put it on : F:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king\lang
and into lang folder , you see 2 files . one of them is English.big . you must replace it with your new English.big file.

hope this work for you !

have a good Modding
