Please read my comments on each poll question before answering this topic.

1. Should the Isengard army be composed of individual units or of hordes?

This question arises from the problem I got with seige ladders for Isengard. Righ now, when a horde climbs a siege ladder, they must all climb it at once. This means that a large number of units can climb the walls extremely fast and it looks unrealistic. By using individual units, I can severly reduce that and make it look much nicer and realistic. Now, the downside with that is that it will be diffcult to script an army composed of single units, and you could only target one unit at a time instead of a horde of units. But, it would be kind of neat to see a massive army of individual units and it would make the attack look so much better and much more like the movies.

2. How large of an army do you want the Isengard army to be?

Note that my map is going to be highly interactive so there's going to be a lot going on. If you choose a large army, don't worry about it getting to repitive and boring because I have a lot of cool and interesting things to put in my map.

3. How many waves do you want the above army to be composed of?

I want to see how you want the army of Isengard to be set up. If you choose no waves, please tell me how you think that would be possible without blowing up the computer :p

Feedback is valued so answer honestly and post your respones to the poll below :p

Well I voted for
1. No, make it hordes as units would be insane because imo it makes little more sense and it is better to control hordes than units atleast I think so
2. 10000, just like the movies because you want the map to feel like the movies dont you ? And also:
More units=More fun :p
3. 17-20 waves if you have 10 000 units you can no way have all of them at the screen at once, it would lag too much. And if they come in waves of 17-20 it takes longer :p

Just so long as it isn't as boring as RotWK's Carn Dum... I don't know how many waves that had, but it was really tedious and I hated it, the fact that the map stuck did not help matters much either...

I'm saying 8-12 waves...I voted 8-10 but when I thought about that more I'd say 10-12.
Heeeeeey!! He said army of ISENGARD so maybe 5000 uraks+some wildmen and some other army? So ya know...I'll say 10.000 and normal hordes(or 5-10 person hordes screw it it's not important) and 10-12 waves. :p

definately hordes not units

5000 i went for... BUTT i might now regret it.... definately a lot more than was int he original ea map

i put 5-7 waves, cause its smalest, i dont want all at once because that would lag loads of people, but a few large enough so that they can do different things at once rather than all attaking the hornburg gate, or all trying to blow up the wall, or all for the siege ladders - get my meaning?? :p - oh so i also think you should have a lot of variation in the waves, not just all uruks and battering rams, but uruks, pikes, archers, rams, siege thingies, ladders, bombs etc.

i voted hordes, 10000, and 5-7.

For the waves, remember the black gate of bfme1? There were 4 'waves' but they didnt all come on at once. It was more like a constant stream of units coming at you. so i think 4-6 big waves, but they dont all appear at once.

1. no, hordes and units would be insane
2. 10000
3 17-20 waves

i voted 17-20 because of my computer lagging often

Well, from the results so far, I got a fairly good idea of what all of you want.

For the first question, I may go against what everyone is saying and try the individual unit thing for Isengard. Now, this will only affect how the computer controls Isengard, so don't have to worry about controlling single units in both the good and evil campaign. I just think that I may be able to pull this off, and if I do, it will really look awesome. But of course, if it doesn't work, I'll try some other methods with the hordes instead.

For the second question, a majority wants to have 10000 units. Well, I hope you all like to be challenged!

For the third question, since we are choosing the largest army, then the number of waves needs to be increased to avoid lag issues. I want people to be able to play my mod on an average computer without too much lag, so I'm thinking roughly anywhere from 500-750 enemy units on the screen at once would accomlish this. So we are looking at more of the 15-20 wave category with perhaps some mini-waves also. I like to make it so some waves will be attacking both the hates and deeping walls, so I'll see what I can come up with.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I think it should be individual units, as Hordes would be not movie-like, you know! Hordes = about 15 units attacking 1 person, individual = more movie like, 1 vs. 1 battles. anyway, individual is WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY Better, you get my point? or should I say more "Way" to show you how good it would be?

EDIT: will we get elves on the map to fight against Isengard on our team? oh! and please make starting units on the walls like in the movie, please! and is this mod gonna change the lay-out of the map? like the walls and stuff to suit the film?

LotRO: Arobomir, started The Dúnedain Rangers kinship at level 16, now level 51 and kinship is rank 10
Elzendill, started The Clan of the Golden Mage kinship at level 15, now level 32, kinship is rank 10

Yes, individual units would be interesting but I'll have to see if it is manageable. Scripting 10000 individual units can be very time consuming and difficult. :p

Yes, you will get elves and yes, the map is being changed to more closely resemble the film. :p

-Hordes of 10, like in BFME1
-As many as won't cause too much lag; preferably 10,000 but no less than 6000 imo
-I'd prefer few very big waves with a constant stream of uruks; idk exactly how many waves, but there should be enough of them that another big wave is coming on-screen right around the one before it is dying off. And they should get a little bit bigger/better each wave, ofc.

-No keep them except they should have 5 units.
-10000 just like the movie
-Screw it all of them on the screen at once. (I regret the last one, so now I am thinking maybe 10-12 waves.
Wait... what?

-Hordes of 5
-10000
-10-12 waves

Hordes of 10-15 vs. Heroes would be unrealistic (as has been mentinoed) and single units would be too hard for both the scripting and the player would have to click a new attack often.

10,000 isn't too many, and is pretty realistic

10-12 waves, or the lag would kill.

I used to be {AE}Manveru, if that rings a bell.

When you've got archers in the vanilla game, and you go to attack laborers at a Lumber Mill, the entire battalion attacks the single unit. It's major overkill and unrealistic. If there are single units, they are treated as a battalion by ranged units and the ranged battalion will only attack one battalion at a time. Unless you have a way to get around this, everyone will be slaughtered if Isen has individual units. They've got to be battalions.

EDIT: I just realized this topic is crazy old and that this post probably doesn't matter :umad:
