Yes, I thought about the plated armour for him, and was originally planning to do that, but changed my mind when I saw that picture I provided.
However, one of the reasons why I don't really like him anymore, is because it doesn't make him look royal at all
And Kwen, once ag'en, I haven't gotten to that part yet. Had to have the basics layered out first so I wouldn't work my ass of for a faulty concept (so in a way, it's good there's hardly Rohirric stuff there)

Another (amazingly unrelated to that earlier picture) example of what he could be made to look like.
Note the robes, which always makes units look important.
I think the concept you're using is pretty ordinary looking and more like a regular infantry unit, which is probably why your model isn't very kingly. You could always just start again with a better, more royal concept, and use the model you've done for a different hero/unit.
If they still don't help, try looking more at Saxon, Scandinavian, Viking, Sarmatian and Germanic armor, rather than medieval English/French armor (as Rohan is more rustic looking than the highly crafted Gondor armor)

I scratched the idea of 100% scratch skin, and decided to get some outside chainmaile and a face, and a couple of other minor details. Not to much, but the chainmail is pretty much used as you'll see
Anyways, that's basically what he'll look like for now. I'll probably never change him, as I quite like it, despite the chaos and hell on the vembraces and the feet armour..
I might change the shield sometime if I eventually don't like it's abnormal look, but we'll see.. Only thing left is his horse which will get some attention.

First, this is 230 years after the War of the Ring, so I feel I'm pretty free at changing designs around, for better or for worse, if I want. Of course, compared to real history, 200 years can change nothing or everything and all in between.
Second, Rohan has 5 heroes in my mod. One with a plated cuirass, one Royal Guard, one dwarf with platemail, and Feothan. As you can see, he's simply a badly done rip-off. (can't believe I haven't change the chainmail...)
I kinda wanted the king to be in the area of Theoden in terms of armour, but it would've been another rip-off. I simply don't have the skill to make something in that detail. Believe me, I tried, a long time ago when I was still skinning activly. I think the King looks Rohirric enough now, so he'll stay that way.
Yes he's not as armoured as he could be, but he'll mostly be a mounted hero, and lighter armour is his choice. I want him to be a hell of a fighter.
Now, in the voice of The White Wizard: He'll have "custom" animations... does that comfort you?
And Yarrum.. I don't see what the word "silly" has to do with it. Weird, or stupid, I could've taken, but silly?
