I think the subject says it all. I think TF2 may just be the best game in history. I played 4-5 hours today, and never once was frustrated with it. It was always fun. Anyone else pre-order Orange Box so they could play it?

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

We were shown a trailer for it in an animation for games lecture last week, it was like an interview with the "heavy weapons guy".
If the game is up to the standard of that video it should be pretty good.

I'm considering getting Orange Box to have a go at modding source anyway. But I don't get much chance for playing games properly at the moment.

I pre-ordered the day before the beta not been on it much recently but it has never been frustrating for me either. I wouldn't say it's the best game in history mind.
And on the subject of The Orange Box - Portal is amazing, it has the best credits of any game I've played.

I refuse to pay the extra money for two products I already have, when the black box was cancelled and the seperate add up to as much as the orange box anyway. Talk about shitting on existing fans.

You can gift the copies of games you already have to other people.

Like anyone is going to pay much for a couple of steam keys. People who want those games will probably have them already *anyway*.

You can buy the game separately on Steam, without the rest of the games.

I love TF2! I've played it for (too) many hours recently. It can be addicting.

Ambershee you're essentially not even buying the extra games. The Orange Box is at such at knockdown price compared to the individual prices that if you want Ep2, TF2 and Portal, then its the way to go. And you can just buy them seperately anyway...

And yes, TF2 is stupidly good.

If you want two or more of the games included, buy the Orange Box. I'm pretty sure it's cheaper in all cases unless you only want one game.

I have to get over the resentment of the withdrawal of my pre-ordered black box first.

Can a non-console hatter help say which version, the 360 or PC, of the Orange Box is better?

PC.
PC is always better for shooters - mouse is made of win.

On the console version you don't have to put up with Steam.

But you do have to put up with rubbish aiming (presumeably auto-aiming too) and paying for online play.

They need more mouse and keyboard support for the 360

I'm pretty sure the console version supports fewer players in multiplayer. Also, Tycho of Penny Arcade had this to say about it (10/12/07)

My TeamFortress 2 experience so far on the console has been fairly uneven. Coming from the PC beta, where I sometimes battled with stability concerns but the games played smooth, I'm now grappling with the reverse. I love the play experience, as I've already expressed, and I'm rarely of the opinion that having more players automatically improves a game - so the differential between the PC and 360 platforms isn't as important to me as it might be to others. No, the problem with TF2 on the 360 (and likely the PS3, as well) is that peer to peer hosting just ain't cutting it. There are games that seem to manage it better, but with Vista PCs authenticating into the service now peer to peer games should be an option. This needs fixed overnight.

Plus, the PC version seems to cost $10 less.

PC version is £15 ($30) less at Gameplay.
