Hello and welcome to the forums! It's nice to see some patient and polite new members, instead of some of the noobs we get around =). To answer some of your questions:

(I'm guessing you and ttandc are part of the team as well, zachdaddy?)...

ttandc got promoted to modeler recently, and zachdaddy is a member of the betatesting team.

I'll send Nazgul the Battle of Five Armies (my utter masterpiece, pride and joy of all my years in mapping since BFME 1!) and see if that's the kind of the standard he's looking for!

Have you got some screens to show us? I'm rather curious :).

edit: sorry for making a post this large when I've only just joined here, I'm not making a very good first impression... :thumbsupsmiley: I just wanted to say thanks to everyone and reply to all the stuff that zachdaddy, ithilienranger and ttandc had written without having to do it over a billion different posts! :)

Don't worry, you've made a very good first impression! As I said, polite and enthusiastic, that's the kind of fans we need.

The same applies to you ithilienranger732. You're both most welcome.

Thanks, Mordor Slayer ;)

As to screens... why not? :) I'll take some good ones for you in a min if you like, and maybe a video of the gameplay (warning: free version of fraps with logo in the top of the screen alert... :p ) and see what you think of it.

I'll add more to this post soon...

Sgt. Angel

Edit: Ooh, just noticed that Nazgul sent a reply to me and Ithilienranger a post or so back, so I'm just gonna send a reply to him as well  :

Short answer: Anyone's free to apply, but I will have to see some kind of "proof" before I "hire" somone again.

Sure thing! Don't worry about it, it's your mod and I understand if you need proof before purchase, it's the only way to keep a mod or it's team in order :)

The last time I brought someone on board, I was not only disappointed, I ended up wasting a lot of time on someone that couldn't even code for sh*t

Ah, they were that bad? I might stand more of a chance of joining the mod then once I learn how to code a bit better!

I appreciate you all showing interest. Just bring some kind of credentials of previous work, and I'll hire you if you're good enough. Just a reminder of what I need...

- CODER: everything else is very low prio. I need a Coder of higher skills than me. I'm above average, but far from elite such as Sûlherokhh and Robnkarla. That's why it's probably gonna be very hard to join SEE as a Coder. I need very high skill levels =/

On second thoughts if I need to be as good as them then it's gonna take me a lot longer to get to the proper level... ah well, the more I learn and the better I am, the more I can contribute to the mod in the end! Short run long run effect ;)

Thanks Nazgul!

Sgt. Angel

UPDATE!
The map itself (The Battle of Five Armies) is now available for download on T3A! I'll include a download full of screenshots as well as soon as I can, for the cautious check-before-you-download downloader :p
Enjoy!

Curses - was starting to play it but my PC cannot take the amount of units (was at about 4 frames a second on very low graphic settings :crazed: ). Still, looking at the graphs at the end game screen, just shows what I am missing - that is a huge force of goblins!

One thing though - is the bridge thing at the top-centre of the map there so that units (in your readme, Bilbo) can cross the river? Because something around there prevents units from either getting to it.

Oh, and MS - sorry if I am one of the Noobish people you refered to.

Wow! Thanks for even downloading it, it's awesome of you! Beta 4.6 is coming out tommorow, with new units and such so stay tuned - I'm also releasing a RotWK version of beta4.6 as well. I know there are a lot of people who don't have mega-powerful PC's like mine, so I have good news for you: beta4.7 is conditioned to run on a lower framerate as the 'huge' force of Goblins (it's going to get bigger, much, much bigger - Tolkien will be smiling at the result, I promise you!) will appear in smaller chunks at once through scripting, making the game much easier to run on computers that can only handle a certain framerate. I'll put some pictures up that I took of my TBoFA game that I played with beta4.5 so you can see what it was like in-game as well, so you don't feel that you were missing out!

As to the bridge (which is actually Thorin's Wall) - the opening behind that going into the misty mountains is now the new good fortress. Units will be able to cross the wall in beta 4.6 as I forgot to remove certain impassable terrain areas around the wall in time for the beta4.5 release. The wall will also be protected by Gloin, Oin, Bimbur, Bomfur, Bofur, Fili and Kili. Thorin Oakenshield, however... well, I may have him done in time for the beta4.7 release, we'll see.

Also, the Elfking (the slightly taller level 5 Mirkwood Archer next to Gandalf) has been replaced by Thirundril (hope I spelled that correct) who after recently re-reading The Hobbit led me to realise that he actually IS the Elfking of Mirkwood and so so belongs with the rest of the Elves in the Battle of Five Armies! Gandalf the Grey will also be equipped with the Word of Power spell which he can use with devistating effect on the opposing Goblin forces.

The beta4.6 version also features seven Eagles as well as Gwaihir, and the RotWK version includes units of wild Wolves and Goblin Wolf Riders, as well as a few units of Gundabad Orcs (no thrallmasters included) which fit in more closely with Tolkein lore. The map's layout is also slightly better designed, but this design will be incorporated into the BFME II version of the map later tonight.

Bolg's tent is now the new evil fortress, as well.

Thanks for downloading the map!

Sgt. Angel

Yep. All maps that I make are for use with BFME II!

But this map is unique because in beta4.6 I have made a RotWK version as well, and there will also be a version that is compatable only with the SEE mod as well (for SEE users) when beta4.7 comes out.

Beta4.6 is coming out at around 6.00pm today New Zealand time folks, in it's BFME II and RotWK versions, so stay tuned! ;)

Hi all,
I'm been around for a few weeks now, but I've never properly introduced myself.

I'm Prince of the Dark Forest, long name, I know, so just call me Prince or something! :p

I love the SEE mod and am amazed at what you guys have done. I'm interested in getting into modding BFME 2, but I don't know how to even open one of the .ini files.

Can someone help me there? Basically, when I open it with Notepad ++, I just get loads of random symbols.

What proram should I use to open the files?

Also, can someone tell me where the game animations are stored and how I can view them?

Thanks!

Thanks, I've just checked them out. I'm gonna start with graphics as I've used GIMP before.

Ha ha! Yeah, I saw at the start of this topic that you were Auzzie. Brisbane's awesome, I plan on visiting it sometime next year just before I enter for my course in Otago uni. I just wanted to say sorry to everyone for not being able to get the RotWK version of the map up at 6.00 today, I was just test running it for the final time when it had a problem and I've had to fix it, it'll be up very soon though, just when I get it into a .rar file with some new notepad tutorials. I'm very sorry if this caused inconvinience to anyone (like if you wanted to quickly log in and download it before you went out or something, which is an unlikely situation but plausable, so to anyone of which such a thing occurred... :p )

Ah well, good news is that the brilliant BFME II beta4.6 version is up on T3A, so everyone can go download that if they like! The READMEs have been updated as well, btw!

Sgt. Angel

Btw Prince, it's very nice to meet you! Welcome to the SEE forums. I'll just answer your problem for you:

1) Now, I'm guessing you're taking your INI .big file and opening it in FinalBIG, yeah? If not then download it because it's really useful and nothing I say will make sense after this if you haven't got the program! :)
2) Now, I know exactly what's happening, 'cause it happened to me as well the first time I looked at the .big files and I was like 'what?'. Basically, you're clicking on a document in the .big file in the list the left of the screen and on the preview screen on the right it's showing a load of random symbols and no readable text, yeah? Well then, you're clear to move on to...
3) Next, extract ALL the INI files to your desktop. Open the folder you've put them all into, and right click on a ini document and go 'Open with' on the menu which appears and select a program called 'Wordpad' (should be a Microsoft standard program on your PC, but you can download it free if you don't have it anyway). Close the menu, and double click the file. It should now open properly and you should be able to change the codes without problem! :)

Why does this problem occur? Well, I'm not really gonna go into too much detail, but basically it's all to do with your system service pack for your windows edition. If your computer supports Windows service pack 2 or 3 then this sort of thing always happens with .big and .tgr files, I really don't know why, but it's just the way of it for some reason. If your computer is running on Windows XP, service pack rules apply, however if your PC is running with Vista then the problem should (and I say should) have been fixed by Microsoft but you can't always trust them to get everything right, they're only human. ^_^

Hope this helps!

Once again, Sgt. Angel
