It's an age-old question (at least as old as the mod): how many developers does it take to rig a 1000-gun star dreadnought? It seems the answer is a legion of artists, or... one programmer. Fortunately, I happen to be the latter and today I finished the Sovereign-class Star Dreadnought!

Never has a ship with so many weapons been put into EaW. I ran into not just one, but two unique overflow exceptions related to hardpoints alone. But I willed it into working and I must say, it is awesome.

The Sovereign-class is the mass production version of the Eclipse and as such, it will take its place in the mod. Although its stats are slightly less extravagent than the Eclipse-class, the Sovereign is still one of the largest and most powerful warships ever conceived and will be the top dreadnought in PR. Its d6 conversion paints a devastating picture: 1075 anti-capital weapons, shields equivalent to those on the Executor-class with a stronger hull, interdiction capability, and of course, a planet-singeing superlaser. The Sovereign's main weakness lies in the fact that it can carry only 40 TIE squadrons with which to defend itself against enemy bombers. Although many will fall to its heavy guns simply from saturation, smaller, more maneuverable craft will eventually win out against the dreadnought, so it's advisable to deploy it against Rebel fleets opposed to squadrons.

Now that I've got 1000 guns working, I'm quite confident that I'll be able to get the 5000 of the Executor before the release as well.

My GPU is a GeForce 7900 GS... so it's not terrible, but not very new either. I have it cranked up all the way on settings and my FPS rarely seems to fall below 10.

Yuck....

Anyways, since the Sovereign is gonna replace the eclipse, does that mean Palpetine gets the Eclipse as a hero transport?

No, I still don't have an adequate model with bones (and therefore weapons) and such. So that's shelved for now. I could give him the Sovereign though in the meantime.

Great model(still seems like the skin is still a little rough, or is it suppose to be like that)
BUT most important is...what about Grand Admiral Thrawn :'(...Can he have the Executor II-class Star Destroyer as his 2nd last upgrade, and then for the last upgrade have a Soverign II-class Star Destroyer, since shouldn't the most strategic Grand Admiral have the best ship....

Thrawn has no association with the Sovereign-class whatsoever - he died before any of them were finished.

So is the Sovereign stronger in your opinion if they were both fully upgraded?

Awesome!

Is game performance still an issue with the Executor?

Difficult to say, but it's hard to ignore the superlaser. I'll know when they're finished.

I don't think it ever was? If anything, dreadnoughts should be less demanding because there's only one of them opposed to a fleet.
