Hey folks...

The SEE mod have a problem that none of us on the team seem to know how to tackle, and it's a bug that's been tagging along for a long time now... so I'd really like to KILL it :)

Does anyone know how to fix this? (Remove the ugly square ni the FX glow):

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated by us =)

i could help probably but i need more info. did any of you edit that FX code or its model ( some Fxs uses actual models)? second thing is if it is problem on all units or only some specifi ones.

solutions for first case would be moving the Fx up along Z axis via code. if it is the second case ( which i see as more likely ) then it can be cause by BBox, i never saw it before but it looks like the FX is clipped by something ( acording to the shape it could be BBox). solution is pretty easy. just move down part of BBox slightly up.

If you could help in any way, I/we would be VERY happy. This is really odd, and something that's been tagging along for what feels like for ever :)

I can answer one of your questions directly:
The bug is only on a very few number of units. Those are
- Haradrims (EA model)
- Easterlings (EA model), and finally
- Black Uruks (model by Lauri)

On Lauri's model, the bug is VERY small, and on the Haradrims it is at its biggest form, which is that on the screen :)
For Easterlings it's rotaed 45 degrees to this:

Now... Robnkarla have edited the Easterlings for a new FB glow, but the bug was there before that and stayed after it. The BU's and Haradrims are not edited in any model-way, only codes afaik. It's really odd, and neither TDP, Lauri or Rob knows why this is... Any help is greatly appreciated ;)

Sounds reasonable. And it is a model (old BfMe1 LD buff), not an FX. Eclipsing stuff was also my first thought. It happens on many unit models, on some only if they stand on a hill. Thx. :)

I'll show your answer to the modelers, and maybe that's enough to locate the solution :)

some of your answers support my theory but some go against it. i suggest moving that FX model up slightly, that should solve the problem with problem appearing only on hills. with the rest you need to edit BBox so it doesnt go to the ground. actually it will never go so low if you import the model. but there is probably bug on w3d importer that makes BBox to decrease its size when imported.

Hey guys.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but that square in the buff FX only appears on models that have been scaled up (I have it in my mod on models that are like 1.1 or 1.2 scale but have never got round to looking into it). Not sure if that will help anyone. I might have a look into it tonight if I get the time.

Are yours in a mod or have you put them somewhere for people to use? I will most likely want to use them (or see how you have made them) if I ever want to solve the same issue in my mod.   :thumbsuphappy:

their not released yet, but yeah, I dont mind giving people  buff nuggets. Ive never actually seen that square bug in those photos(seen similiar shit tho), but id guess its either a wrong shader selected, uclamp/vclamp not on, a bad mesh, or the wrong w3d export settings. no way its a bound box issue. From my experience FX made from models dont cause that from being too close to the ground, only happens if its made via particlesys instead.

some examples, bleh im 2 lazy to post 10 million links but u get the idea

Sweet man. I'll hunt you down when I get on to them.

Like I said, that FX bug is caused by increasing the scale of the objects (or it is in my mod, anything scaled up at all has this bug with the buff XP).
