Stargates?

Do you want stargates, or not, or some other odd combination/lack thereof?

1) You dial in an address. Basically its a seven symbol code into the (termed) DHD, or dial home device.
2) The wormhole forms.
3) You step through.
With 36 symbols, 6 symbols per address (as the seventh is the symbol of the world you are on), there over thousands of possibilities. You figure it out.
And, as has been shown on the show, an eight symbol can be added into the sequence. This requires more power, but can achieve greater distances, such as traversing two galaxies.
Each gate can connect to any other gate.

also when you think about it, making a super wormhole thuing in a planets atmosphere it would probably suck up all the air, or set the atmosphere on fire or somthing
so maybe have space gates, that are in orbit around some plantes, and ships can pass through them.

So, like some of the ones in Stargate Atlantis, where the gates are actually in orbit, but are dialed from the ground?

cause as i said, imagine what would really happen if a wormhole opened up in a plantes atmosphere
it could charge the atmosphere so much that apocalyptic lighting storms could destroy it
or even destroy the atoms making nuclear explosions
or as i said burn the atmosphere to a crisp, or suck away all the air
so i think they should just be in orbit, all of them
being left there by an ancient civilization, the are only around some planets(not a whole heap) and they are big enough to fit small space ships, so not mother ships, or any huge ships, but bigger ones then the little puddle jumpers(or gate ships) that are actually in it
and maybe 1 super gate is in each quadrant, which can allow a huge ship to pass through, but you have to find a really big power source to power it up
we could have bigger quadrants that way to, cause we have the super gates to get around, we wouldn't need to have as fast hyper drives
but as i said, dont bring the stargate universe into this RPG, use the same idea, but dont copy it exactly( so instead of star gates, or shapaeyes(i cant spell it) we could have 'space doors' lol, or warp gates or something) that are the exact same idea, just in space only, and not plagiarized then either

Warp Gates
Space Portals
Deific Portals (requires some history of the race that built them: thought they were the ancient gods allowing their people to spread more easily because they couldn't understand the nature of inter/sub/superdimensional travel)
Gateways
White Holes (spacer joke, that sort of thing)
Magic Space Doors (less likely, I admit, but just about possible in a certain type of society, namely one ruled by a collective of scientists who keep the masses in check by pretending to be magicians with evil and wonderful powers)
Travelling Gates
Pathways
Any others are down to the rest of you now

They explain it that the DHD (dialhomedevice) and the Stargate have a link between themselves. Basically the Gate can tell what wants to go through, and what's just hanging around. Basically, air, being already there, won't go through the Gate, because it's already pressurized when the gate becomes activated. Same with the vacuum of space.
Gates are uni-directional, one way. If you try to go back through the gate, you get..how shall we say it...deatomized? Your atoms disappear as you tried to go the wrong way.
As for the charging of the atmosphere, it would never work, as the gate absorbs all of the power DIRECTLY from the DHD.
As for the supergate in each quadrant. That might work. Powersource could be a blackhole. Or neutron star. Or any other type of thing that emits radiation. Dialing would be the hard part, for ANYTHING in space, as there wouldn't be a DHD floating around, how would you dial it.
I gtg for now. Cya

or there are special dial-ers, that races have now been able to duplicate, that are the only way to dial the gate, (no dial-er, no gate use, its sorta like a portable DHD)
that way domain can't use the gates against us unless they steal a PDD(portable dialing device)
and i like the name Warp Gate, thats what i was thinking we should call them from the beginning
and i still think they should be in space, maybe they could be like space docks
or maybe some races could have built space stations around the gates orbiting their plantes
(and do we want the inventors of the gates to still be around, or like in star gate, no longer with us?)

And you know what was weird? The Stargate film was on last night! It was a little surreal - I said to my sister "I feel like watching a film."
She turns on the TV onto the channel it was already on just to hear it say "Coming up next, Stargate."
I was like, "Divine providence?!"

also besides from the 4 'super gates', we could keep them being fairly small, a bit bigger then the ones in the show, but not big enough to fit anything much larger then a scout class space ship
(maybe around 12 meters in diameter??? big enough for a small ship to fit nicely, but i mother ship to not make it, or whatever you want)
and how about to explain why they weren't being used till now, lets say that something happens and the gates un-cloak sorta, like they had a super cloaking device that no one knows how to detect yet, but something happens and it turns it off, so all this gates suddenly appear from nowhere
anyway, are we getting 'warp gates' or not?

So yeah, I'd second the orbital idea.

Yep, we'll have supergates large enough to fit light cruisers through in each quadrant. They'd have to be tied to a black hole or solar sphere or something for energy and coordinates.
As for the orbital gate, I suppose that's ok.

As for the physical element, orbital and wired up to a star/supernova/black hole is the only feasible way, although I can't help but thinking that if they're physically orbiting around something it's going to throw off calculations a tad. Maybe make it so that they're on a kind of converted asteroid or small planet or something, near the power source.
Also, I second the question of size. I don't see the point if you only send a few fighters across the universe, but if you can get your whole fleet somewhere, then that's great, it's a whole new board game. Which one is it?
