You might wonder why sometimes RJ's updates take some time, but to give you an idea of what I've been working on (just one of many things the team is doing), here is something I've recently posted in the mapping forum. I hope you enjoy, as I think since the start people have asked if we were going to be doing this:

Well, I decided I would finally sit down and power through all the tests (setting up a new living map region/territory - 8 .w3d files and all the coding with hours of tests:p) and it passed the test of a quick match.

So here are the regions/effects/etc. built from scratch based on a couple regions from BFME1. It's not really meant to be pretty, but just a test of what is possible. (The map's text layer can also be changed (the region borders/names). I still have to work out the borders for capitals, but it's minor.

So here we go:

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

So what does this mean? Basically I've got all the ins and outs of editing the living map, and it can be done as many times as needed, though a time consuming process. The non-linear campaigns can be custom, and we can have our own WotR, plus we can use the original one as well. Basically as many as we need (it is based by scenario). So I guess the next step is to break up the living world how we want to see it. :p

So feel free to post away.

I didn't think it was possible, but You actually did it! :p
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

Yeah, what you are looking at is a new living world map, and the regions seen on it have been added by Rob. Basically this means that we now are able to work from here and split the map into any regions that we want. The current images you can see only have 2 or 3 regions on, but you should get the idea of what a breakthrough this is :p

Great job, Rob! You defied the impossible. Thanks a lot!

Is that a possible outline for a Far Harad region that I see? :p Yeah, I've really wanted another Harad region to work with. This is very exciting! SOrry about being demanding, but I'm going to suggest (if it's possible) if you could make a region that has a required sea-battle. I'm thinking along the lines of the Bay of Belfalas because there's an island there. Or you could fool around with he Sea of Rhun or other rivers/bodies of water.

What other maps are you thinking about includind/creating?

Chances are when you went to the WotR it didn't work because you might not have realized that you were in the non-linear campaign. WotR works right now for about 1/2 of the factions. The best part about this is the non-linear campaign which can be re-designed for all the missions that we want to have included.

To play the non-linear campaign - go to WotR and select RJ-RotWK. Then select Gondor and you'll start a campaign similar to the BFME1 campaign. While it is fun to be able to have a huge 100 map WotR, a huge benefit is in controlling the map layouts of the living world for the campaign. (Paths of the Dead, more rohan maps, etc.)

It's like the bfme1 campaign, where you can choose which armies you want to bring where.

It's not like normal wotr in that all the actual missions are scripted, not just random battles.

Man Rob, you always manage to do the most incredible things. So will these regions be in normal War of the Ring mode as well, or are you keeping them exclusive to your non linear campaign?

Bravo :thumbsupsmiley: I know you've been meaning to make your own living world regions for quite some time, and I knew you would eventually get it working. Any luck on forcing the player to move to a specific spot after a certain event? Just curious... :p
