Sorry, I wasn't too clear. I meant that you could start with a Golan I, but then upgrade it to Ia, then to Ib if it was at an important world that only has a level 2 starbase.Could we have upgrades like heroes do? That would let us have upgraded Golans at important worlds, while less-important worlds have less-powerful versions.
You should get that already. The Golan levels that you can build should be linked to the colony size. If you only have a level 2 colony, you can't build the bigger Golans.

They were necessitated by using a fully upgraded Skirmish, so yes, I made them up.Well, since AFAIK the "reinforced" Golans are technically PR fanon, PR can do whatever he wants to them.
Well since you made them up, buff them! Letting them have some anti-fighter weaponry would be a start.

Unless Golan upgrades are implemented, I'd rather stick to what's there.

<DevXen> Today I was at the store and saw a Darth Vader action figure that said "Choking Hazard." It was great.

I figure 10 laser turrets at level one, 10 laser turrets and 5 heavy laser turrets at level two, and 20 laser turrets and 20 heavy laser turrets at level three would do nicely, especially since at level three Scimitars and K-Wings start showing up.

The thing is, in Skirmish, you can station anything up to the size of a cruiser above it to deal with bombers. I don't really want to start giving it all sorts of speculative armaments.I know, its just that I don't think they have enough firepower. Most annoying is their complete lack of any anti-fighter defenses. Since I'm assuming the role of a reinforced Golan is to act as a base where building an entire space colony and attendant spaceports would be cost-inefficient, giving it the ability to not be slowly chopped to pieces by a few squadrons of fighters shouldn't be too much to ask.
