Even though I sometimes also use abbreviations, I usually type in whole sentences, so I won't look like a total moron. It also works the other way around though, you can intimidate the masses with a low iq by writing with good grammar and a good style. Like in 'wow, the guy is really smart... he uses difficult words and good grammar, and the sentences are perfectly written! what he's writing must be totally true!', while in reality I'm writing total bullshit.
Now that I think about it, that's kind of the power of the written word. You can use it in politics or in the media with sinister ends. It's not so much as what's written, but more how it's written.

God, I hate it when people use 'lol' mid-conversation. And smileys."lol" is overused, just like smileys.
As long as one uses Standard English, perfect punctuation, witty syntax and flawless use of the subjunctive, I'm fine.
American Translation: Make sense, after that I don't care.

This is something we can all agree on.I'm for warning Pasidon. For no good reason, like the old days.
And I'm against warning Seg. He didn't actually do anything wrong; though he did successfully troll a few of you.

Either is not wrong.Shouldn't that be "write poorly"And I'm sure it takes longer to write badly than well.
I admit I'm bad for using the smiley, and lol, especially on MSN, but on here I tend to avoid."lol" is overused, just like smileys.
Me!As a linguist, I am forced to concede that the most recent evolutions of the English language have led us down an extremely lazy path. These days new words are almost all portmanteaus and abbreviations. It just seems to be the direction in which our mother tongue is headed, and we are powerless to stop it, except through a brutal and merciless campaign of unmitigated slaughter. Who's with me?
I personally reckon netspeak will become its own language one day, and the rest of us will just go back to using English. That said, I'm also looking forward to the day that the United States as a nation learns to fucking spell. Even the ones who spell most words properly still fuck up words that end 'our' or 'ise'.

A hard Z sound not a soft S sound.
And what's the point of using letters that aren't needed. Why spell it Armour? Armor does the same job with less letters. Save the environment. Use green text...

Thank you, good sir. I laughed heartily at this.Maybe you should stop whining. Americans spell using "ize" instead of "ise." Do you know why? Because phonetically it's pronounced Rea-liZe not Rea- LiCe.
A hard Z sound not a soft S sound.

It's our language. We get to say how it's spelled. And pronounced, for that matter. And while we're at it, we get to make the words up, too. Aluminium. Nappy (instead of 'diaper'). Sulphur. Bonnet (instead of 'hood'), Boot (instead of 'trunk'). Go make your own fucking language instead of ruining ours.
And if we're talking about knocking letters off words or writing as it's pronounced, I don't see you dropping the K off knife, or the U from source.
If you're going to be American and lazy (heh, as if the latter is not redundant after having said the former...), at least be consistent with it. Or couldn't you be arsed to do that, either?
P.S: Sardonicity isn't really your strong suit, is it?

YOU BRITS MADE AMERICA.
You expect us to not speak and write the language we were BORN with? Holy shit man. And the little tiny differences are just showing we are different from British. Not like we are KILLING THE GODDAMN LANGUAGE!!!
