Science can't give you an answer because there is none. Let's face it, we're a cosmic fart that shouldn't have existed in the first place. Yet we do. So yeah. Read your Nietzche.

That sounds more like some Chtulu mythos philosophy though. Even though it might be the most prudent perspective on what we are, its not directly healthy for our psyche to go around thinking we are worth nothing.

The meaning of life is to give life meaning. If you go around thinking it's useless and there is no point, you can just string yourself up right away. Religion was one of the first attempts at giving life meaning. Even if we today are no big fans of religion, we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater. You should have a goal and a opinion on what you want to do with what you are, and it shouldn't be a self-destructive or ignorant one at that.

Religion is a good start for the majority of humanity, but for the more experienced, a custom philosophy of life is preferable. Regretting to have a philosophy of life because it smells of religion is not a wise move

Thank you for that link, Fen. I enjoyed reading every word. I think I'll remember his arguments for future encounters with God-botherers and bible-thumpers.

The meaning of life is to live it, to make ourselves and each other happy. Does that benefit the universe? Not at all, but for some reason, we like being happy.

Exactly what Nietzsche says... We have no idea what we are doing here and it probably doesn't serve a purpose anyway, so might as well just make the best of it while we're here.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

I always see the meaning of one's life is what they die for. Died of cardiac arrest? You died for fast food. Died of magma? You died for faith in a volcano. Figuratively and literally.

When will religious gay-bashers get the hint that their views are just as offensive to the rest of us as our general dislike of God and bigotry are to them?

I disagree - homophobia is far worse than nilhilism. By far. It's akin to saying insults to one's race is worse than insults to one's religion. You can choose your religion, but you can't choose you race/sexuality. So if they take offence to my beliefs, I reserve the right to take 10 times the amount of offence from their views.
Archon's moderate? Really, I still consider that to be warped.

I became apatheist when I realised religion and God had no bearing on me whatsoever. Neither is important to me.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe the woman in this video might be a Christian but she certainly is fucking nuts. I believe the money she spent for two of her kids to move out was money well spent.

I belive every holy book in existance was written by people who decided to "write a holy book."

I believe in evolution because...it's hard not to. I believe God exists. Not in the form we've been made to believe but simply because the universe is pretty fucking complicated especially at the quantum level. So my mind feels comforted knowing there is some head clown running the circus.

You show me a book written by the hand of God and I'll show you a book written in the back of a cave 2000 years ago by some dude.

Well.. when it comes to the whole god situation I'm not too decisive because I'm not willing to believe just because I was told to and to disbelieve because of insecurities. I've always believed that god is real in some form or another because 'God' has had more of an impact on humanity than any great historical figure you could name, in a way doesn't that alone make him real? Yeah some of you might actually be right about some guy just deciding randomly to write one but to put it bluntly I don't think we will ever know this.

PS: Gotta love that video just made my video.. If anything she is stupid, how can you believe in something you were told to by your parents or was forced upon you. Thats not belief and well I guess the idea of this is lost upon some. Isn't astrology just predictions of the future based on stars and the moon and that kind of thing ?

On that note, who here has heard of the Westboro Baptists? I assume most Americans will be familiar with them, but for everyone else, here's a link to Louis Theroux's documentary about them. The first part, anyway. Figure the rest out yourself. What am I, your mother?

All homosexuals should die ?? well... if it wasn't for a 'fag' we would never have cracked the Germans radio coding during WW2 and would all be speaking German at this point in time so I think all Westboro baptists can go burn in hell for all I care.. Picketing at the funeral of dead soldiers? That is just low seriously preying on the dead to fuel their silly and overall retarded beliefs.

You guys have not read much Nietze haven't you? He is the last person who thinks that human life is pointless. In his works he speaks of bigger humans, those who can go beyond those who blindly believe every bullshit they hear. It is important to find your place in this world. It also means that you need to think beyond the bonds of religion, moral or laws.

P.S. The guy that wishes to burn a church just because religious people are inside is just sick.

Yeah, I mentioned earlier that it sounded more like something from a cthulu mythos book than some proper Nietze philosophy. He has gotten a pretty tarnished reputation as of late because of the unfortunate connection of Übermensch and the Nazis. Not that I've personally read any of his stuff, but I've at least read summaries enough to know that its more about doing your best and don't let anything get in your way, than not believing in anything.

No, no.. I have respect for all religions but when you go round spreading BS like that I lose all respect I possibly had for them. I don't mind your average religious guy who goes to church or mosque or wherever worships as long as he respects that I have my religion and he has his, not all this bull crap with people preaching in public some random meaningless messages.
