Did you extract and rename the WARGAME.DIR archive? That's the only thing I can think of right now.

That might be problem. As long as WARGAME.DIR is present, the game reads the files from there. If you rename the archive, the game reads the extracted files - or in this case, the modded files.

Was wondering if this could also be done with Robin Hood Legend of Sherwood maps considering that it's by same developer as desperados

How do I install custom maps? Can't get it to work :(

For BCD:

copy DNOCHE.WAD to -> DATOS\RECURSOS\BMPS\MAP_MP
copy the other files to -> DATOS\MISIONES

edit DATOS\MISIONES\MISIONES.DAT with a text editor
change (or add the line at the top)
[ .FICHEROMISION MAPA0000.MIS .HTIT 3N00 ]
to
[ .FICHEROMISION DNOCHE.MIS .HTIT 3N00 ]

####################

For BEL:

copy DNOCHE.WAD to -> DATOS\RECURSOS\BMPS\MAP
copy the other files to -> DATOS\MISIONES

edit DNOCHE.MIS with a text editor, change
.MISSION [
to
.FASE0000 [
and change
.WADMAP DNOCHE.WAD
to
.WADMAP DNOCHE

edit DATOS\MISIONES\MISIONES.DAT with a text editor and change
[ .NUMMISION 1 .TOKEN FASE0000 .FICHEROMISION MAPA0000.MIS .HTIT 3N00 .TITULO Fase_0000 ]
to
[ .NUMMISION 1 .TOKEN FASE0000 .FICHEROMISION DNOCHE.MIS .HTIT 3N00 .TITULO Fase_0000 ]

Oh, I'm sorry.

This should work:

attachicon.gif Desperados_tools+trains.rar

Edit: Here's the ReadMe:

attachicon.gif DesperadosTools_ReadMe.txt

Finally, after two years I hope you guys will answer. I'd like to simply upscale the .dvm images with these new upscaling tools, that would be just very cool. With your tools I can extract e.g. .dvm files, but after upscaling how do I get them back/compress them into .dvm again? Would be great if you have the tools to do so!

Hello everyone

I am also reversing the desperados files. Not for modding purposes per se, but for an general understanding of how Desperados works.

Currently I am disassembling with Ghidra. To my biggest surprise the steam linux version was shipped with some debug information.

This makes it so much easier, it's much more like reading ugly C source code.

For the modding purpose its now possible to just read functions like DVFastFindGrid::LoadLiftsFromFIle to understand how the bytes are read.

Hope that helps anybody.
