Yet other abilities are strange to learn, why would somebody need to learn to mount, I haven't seen anybody learn how to ride a horse during the movies.
Also, permanently killing heroes would be ultra realistic and give some good reason to keep them alive, but it would cause people to dislike late game because of the lack of heroes. Having them learn abilities logically would need a total overhaul in all hero abilities... some heroes simply don't have powers that they would learn during the movies, others learn them simultaneously according to logic, it would be a pain to balance, causing more gameplay issues because of lore.
We should do it one way or another, and that choice is made by Nazgûl, and it has been made.

Gimli kinda did? Atleast he learned to sit on one. Merry, Pippin, Sam and Frodo learned to ride ponies.
Perhaps, but for instance, Faramir had to level before mounting in BFME2, however I'm quite sure he didn't learn to ride a horse during the movie.

If you're so stuck on the horse business, just give him the mount toggle from rank 1. No need to change the system across the board just for a few silly powers.

Interesting debate. I believe the idea here is to eliminate the rpg element from the game. Heroes are meant to turn the tide of battle and the strategic element is which hero are you willing to spend the cash on, for his ability to augment troops on the field of battle.
While I like the visual changes heroes go through. having random skins at spawn would be neater than changing outfits as if the skirmish is a literal progression of the character. I dont feel it fits the skirmish realm very well. ooh look im changing clothes as I get more poweful. it fits for WOTR and the campaign but in a single skirmish not so much.

I hear what you're all saying, but this has been decided long ago. I/we have a million things to do, so reworking this descision isn't exactly something I even consider. Most of you, are gonna like this mod anyways, thanks to all the amazing help I've gotten from others. Cool coding solutions frpm Sûl and Geel, new FXs and a lot of awesome models from a prominent list of modelers. Hero leveling is not something that will be of considerable importance when you see all of these goodies. And also, it's impossible to make a mod that appeals to all, in all aspects. I'm sure most other mods have leveling heroes, so this makes SEE a bit different. And yes, heroes will be poweful and important. But not tanks that can win a war by themselves. SEE is about units primarily. I'm sorry some of you don't like the setup, but this is how it's gonna be. At least for now.
